NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING

July 17, 2000

Meeting called to order: 7:30 p.m.

Attendance: Claire Hayes, Chairman
Duane Limpert, City Council Member
Rich Scott, Member
Tom Jenkins, Safety Director
Todd Morgan, Commissioner
Judith Ptacek, Secretary

Absent: Tim Smith, Vice Chairman
Dave Gardner, Member
Debbie Adams, Member

Visitors: None

Report by Commissioner:
At the June meeting there was a lengthy discussion on the land purchase, so I want to share
other matters now. First, the flooring for the rink went to bid. Roughly $75,000 is being targeted
for the flooring project, consisting of the concession area, the warming area, the restrooms and
the hallway going around to the rink office. We selected grey, with some maroon highlighting
and outlining; the maroon being in the high wear areas for easy replacement. We selected
Mondo because we felt it’s the best product: it’s got a 10-year warranty, the only product on the
market that does. Mondo was the only bidder on the project. It will be a six-week process to do
the installation, so we’ll be going right up against the rink opening to get the rubber floor
installed. We are hoping not to delay the opening of the ice arena. The idea is that once the
compressor is on, you’re putting moisture in the building. The hoses are being sprayed, and
that’s very damaging when $75,000 of flooring is being installed with glue that adheres to the
concrete requiring a test of the moisture. If we have to delay it a week or ten days, we might do
so. There might be some complaining from the Hockey Club and Figure Skating Club.
stth
Typically, the Hockey Club opens on August 21 and the Figure Skating Club on August 28, a
week later, but if we hear any complaints, you’ve been warned that this is why we’re delaying the
process. If there are any delays that are out of the ordinary, we could be in trouble, but we think
th
we’re going to be able to open up. Maintenance will start the compressors up about August 7
when the old floor will be removed. Then Maintenance will remove the old glue, clean the floor
and do the test for the moisture. Again, we think we’re just going to make it but, if we have any
delays, we think it’s going to put us right up against the money. We also have some samples of
carpet for you to
