doors. Ms. Sorge spoke about the water problems created by the leaking roof. It is hazardous, as
well as unsightly; plus, it drips on heads during play. Ms. Sorge also mentioned that the doors
have rather large gaps around them. She suggested weather stripping or such to seal the gaps.
Ms. Sorge also mentioned the lights on the courts buzz/hum, the curtains are being repaired or
replaced and that is great. A new clock/buzzer is needed. Ms. Sorge suggested a digital clock, as
an official clock, is badly needed on the courts. It was also mentioned that the wall covering
looks nice, but the painting needs to be finished. Ms. Sorge then questioned the reason for the
rate increase, without notification. It was said that there is not much difference between the
resident and non-resident fees. Lastly, Ms. Sorge suggested that something needs to be done to
increase the viewing area, as you cannot view courts #3 and #4 from the current viewing area.
Ms. Powell reiterated the need for a larger viewing area, especially during tournaments and
children’s lessons. The last on the list, Ms. Sorge, expressed the desire for outdoor tennis courts
with lights. Ms. Sorge also stated that she wishes to see these courts here at the Rec Center,
rather than at North Olmsted Park. This concluded the tennis agenda.

Mr. Jenkins inquired as to the rate increase. Ms. Sorge stated it was a $2.00/hour increase in the
fall. Mr. Morgan then responded to the tennis issues:
As far as the locker room area, the light fixtures have been cleaned; walls, ceilings and showers
and the washroom floor have been repainted; re-caulking is taking place where the ceiling meets
the wall in the tennis area where the new HVAC system had been installed for the rink; re-
caulking of the vanity in the locker room and new napkin dispensers installed; new toilet seat
protector dispensers have been installed. New partitions, mirrors and shower curtains have been
or will be ordered and installed. Mr. Morgan stated that the “big push” this year will be for new
plumbing, automatic flushers for toilets and automatic faucets. Additionally, automatic light
controls are being considered. In the court area, the highline curtains have certainly added to the
aesthetics and painting of the walls will be completed upon receiving the new roller purchased to
replace the one that broke during painting. As for the roof, the problem of the leakages are being
addressed as best as can with the situation at hand. The problem is two-fold: by walking up there
to seal the areas which are leaking, the weight creates pressure on the other areas, causing more
leaks or even re-opening of previously sealed areas. The long-term solution is to get a complete
covering with $40,000 appropriated by council to do the entire roof, giving us a 5-10 year “leak-
proof’ guarantee. This should be done this spring, once the weather breaks. Weather-stripping
has been replaced on the back door, and Mr. Stein will take a look at the other doors. Painting on
the north and south walls are on track to be completed. Replacement of “s” hooks on the divider
nets by pulleys is in process. Also looking at getting the bottom 2 feet of dividers replaced and
attached by Velcro, so that as they wear and tear from being dragged, they can be replaced. The
stair treads are being replaced for cautionary measures. The men’s locker room will be repainted.
Air vents on the courts will be cleaned and rebuilt. As far as the lights buzzing, there are 72 and it
is difficult to keep up with. Budget constraints allow for possibly 10 to be replaced per year. A
digital clock can certainly be looked at. Mr. Jenkins inquired if other facilities have a court clock.
Ms. Sorge stated that only one clock is needed for the main court. Mr. Morgan stated he would
have the tennis supervisor, Pat Cunningham, look into a new clock/buzzer. The rates are based
on surveys done by comparison to other clubs. Mr. Gardner suggested that improved
communication may be needed when rates are increased. Explain the reason for the increase and
advise as to when and how much. Also, the viewing area is a concern. It is being looked at on
Page 2
