Mr. Morgan will have Mr. Stein
repair.

Ms. Powell inquired if maintenance staffing is adequate for all areas of the Recreation Center. Is
this a problem? Mr. Morgan stated that during the summer they are stretched thin due to field
preparations at the schools and parks. As far as staffing, we have: 2 + Tom Stein on day shift,
1 - 3:00 to close, and 1 – 11:00pm to 7:00am (night shift) 7 days a week.

Mrs. Sorge asked how frequently the courts are vacuumed. Mr. Morgan stated that 3x per week
is the scheduled vacuum frequency. Mrs. Powell stated that a lot of gum has been on the courts,
especially behind the curtain. She inquired if the courts are rented out for other activities. Mr.
Morgan stated that during February and March, late night parties and after proms are scheduled
and have activities on the courts. Food and drink are not allowed down on the courts.
Unfortunately, it does happen. The maintenance staff does their best to clean up well after these
events. Mr. Miller inquired if a cleaning fee is assessed for these parties. Mr. Morgan responded
that currently it is not a fee charged up front on the leases. However, it has been charged when
necessary after the fact. Mr. Jenkins suggested that a deposit for cleaning be assessed on these
leases for parties. And if the areas utilized are clean and orderly, the deposit shall be returned.
Also, look into a sign stating “No Food, No Drink, No Gum” posted in the tennis area, perhaps
by the entrance to the courts. Mr. Miller asked who was in charge of enforcing the rules during
these functions. Mr. Morgan stated that the building supervisor is in charge, along with a 1 to 10
student to chaperone ratio required.

Mrs. Powell asked the status of tennis courts being placed at the park versus the Recreation
Center and the park improvement project. Mr. Jenkins responded that a lot of engineering and
service projects and contracts (approximately 25) are currently being reviewed. The park
improvement project will not happen this year.

Mrs. Powell concluded by thanking the Recreation Center and Recreation Commission for hearing
their pleas and responding to their requests.
Page 2
