<br />NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 19, 2001 <br /> <br />Meeting called to order: 7:15 p.m. <br /> <br />In Attendance: Claire Hayes, Chairman <br />Sandy Sorge, Member <br />Paul Miller, Member <br />Tom Jenkins, Safety Director <br /> <br />Todd Morgan, Commissioner <br /> Duane Limpert, Council Member <br /> <br />Absent: Axel Hoyer, Member <br /> <br /> <br />Visitors: Linda Powell, Tennis Patron <br /> Sue Marella, Tennis Patron <br /> <br />stnd <br />Approval of October minutes: 1 motion to approve by Tom Jenkins; 2 motion made by Paul <br />Miller. No corrections or additions were made. Vote taken; all present responded “yes”, with the <br />exception of Claire Hayes who abstained, as she was not present at the previous meeting. Motion <br />passed. <br /> <br />The visitors were introduced. The purpose for their attendance was to discuss the Tennis Players’ <br />Agenda distributed to each of the Commission members. Ms. Powell discussed each item on the <br />agenda as summarized below. <br /> <br />1.Roof repair status – Completed; so far, no leaks <br /> <br />2.2002 Capital Improvements – Presented a petition with 166 signatures last week (November) <br />to Mayor Musial (copy given to Mr. Jenkins and the Commission members to view) <br />a) Two HVAC Units – Noted by Mr. Morgan to cost $50k each <br />b) Lighting System – Cost estimated at $55-$77k; 4-5 year payback with energy savings; Mr. <br />Limpert suggested the Commission to ask Council to take out notes to do this project-IF- the <br />payback is realistic; Mr. Miller cautions the Commission to be sure the new system will be <br />adaptable to any future expansion <br />c) Additional Court(s) – Mrs. Powell stated it is her understanding that there has been <br />discussion of this as an improvement for next year; Mrs. Marella noted that 5 courts are <br />necessary for UPSTA tournaments, plus it would be nice to have one additional court to <br />continue play outside of tournament; Mrs. Marella also suggested we consider coin-metered <br />courts outside for night play, as they have in Bay Village; Mrs. Powell also stated that <br />eventually the Tennis Community would like to discuss outdoor courts with a “bubble” <br />overhead and “pay to play” lighting system; Basically, the Tennis Community would like to <br />ensure their place in the long-term improvement plans for the Recreation Center <br />* It was noted by Mrs. Sorge that the Commission is hearing the needs and desires of the <br />Tennis Community and realizes the revenue generated through tennis. <br />d) Viewing Area – still desired (not discussed at any length during this meeting) <br /> <br />
