(3)

REPORT BY BETSY DRENSKI, RINK SUPERVISOR
Mrs. Betsy Drenski, Rink Supervisor, was introduced. She was present to share her goals and
objectives for 2002, and report status of rink programs.

1)One of the main goals is to increase Learn to Skate (LTS) numbers and revenue. To do this,
Jeff Marshall was hired on as Learn to Skate Coordinator. He is our main instructor, and will
train and coach the other instructors. He is a wonderful instructor and many worthwhile
credentials. Mr. Marshall will also be creating a lesson plan for each class, for each day. Mr.
Marshall will help to greatly improve the quality of our program. We have also joined the
United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA). This will provide each LTS participant
with a membership to USFSA, a record book to track goals obtained, and patches for each
level of completion. This is a great learning and motivational aid. Also, classes have been
increased by 10 minutes to 45 minutes, and a pizza party has been added after classes are
completed. This will not only serve as a “congratulatory” party, but also present them with an
opportunity to register for the next session. So far, this has been well received.

2)New instructor coats have been purchased. The coats are paired with black pants to increase
visibility of the instructors.

3)Main rink lesson has been added. Therefore, the main and studio rinks are being utilized
simultaneously. Plus, the addition of a public skate immediately following allows them the
opportunity to stay on their own and practice.

4)Promotion of programs is another primary focus. Free lessons are being offered through the
schools and various community functions. Thus, providing the opportunity to “try before you
buy”. It is an intense 20-45 minute lesson, introducing the skills with toys, visuals and a lot of
fun. They then can sign up right after the lesson. So far, this promotion has generated great
response.

5)Have begun providing tots in our tot classes with hats with our logo on it. This not only
promotes safety during the lessons, but also promotes our program when they wear it outside
the Rec Center.

6)Another goal is the addition of new programs. One of our new programs is the addition of a
Mom and Tot class. So far this year we have 30 people in this class taught by Jeff Marshall.
After the children pass this class, what has been happening is the mothers are signing up for
adult lessons while the children progress to the next levels.

7)Working on re-organizing the Home School programs. Currently there are nine different
schools coming in for sessions during the day. It is our goal to eventually get them on the
same program as the Learn to Skate sessions.

8)Goal for spring is to promote more school outings, and to gain more presence in the schools

9)We have recently signed on 30 children from Horizons for a 3-week after school lesson. This
was a result of a free lesson promotion offered to them.

10)We are currently working with other recreation facilities to offer our program through their
brochures, allowing their patrons to register through their own facility and take lessons from
our facility.
* Session I numbers have already seen an increase from 92 to 174, and Session II from 198 to 283
this year. Plans for an Ice Show in May is underway. This will give us a chance to showcase our
rink programs.
Page 3
