Minutes of a Meeting of the
Parks and Recreation Commission
August 6, 2007

Mr. Dailey said that the goal is to make the ice people as comfortable as possible; have the dasher
boards painted and cleaned and the ice back up. Mr. DiSalvo said the painting is seventy percent done
– there was a humidity problem, and the paint wasn’t sticking to the walls. There was a motor that
burned out a week and a half ago, and it contributed to a fan that helps to take the humidity out. It
doesn’t affect the ice too much, but it does affect the humidity, and the walls are a little bit wet;
otherwise, the painting would have been done.

Mr. Dailey said that the meeting with the Program Supervisors went well – he wanted everyone to
know that everyone is working together to see if there are programs that people want at a price they
can afford and, hopefully, see what programs aren’t working and come back with some different
programs for 2008 that will increase the percentages to where they should be. The talk was that the
young boys’ softball league give way to a less competitive than Hot Stove hardball league. There still
will be softball for young ladies. Mr. DiSalvo agreed that there is probably a market for the hardball
league.

Mr. Groden asked about the difference in cost between the postcard and book mailings. Mr. Dailey
said that the production is where the cost is. The cost to mail is a lot more as well. The savings
would be about $19,000 per year; so that would be what the Rec Department would be looking to
offset in advertising.

Lockers

Mr. Dailey said that the Women’s Locker Room has closed down (moved to Tennis), been cleaned
and painted. The curtains have been; the shower heads are being replaced. Aesthetically, it looks
much better.

Front Entrance Area

Mr. Barker commented that tonight was probably the first time in a long time he came in through the
front door, and he was impressed with the cleanliness of the area. He did notice that the clock is three
hours behind in the concession area. However, presentation-wise, walking up to the building, it has
improved a lot. Mr. Dailey said that the employees are becoming more cognizant of picking up trash
as a matter of course.

Assistant Commissioner Drenski

Ms. Drenski is due to have a baby in late October. Mr. Dailey reported that the Rec Department is
working with her to make sure that the staff will be able to take over the bookings in the Rink
responsibly while she’s gone. Ms. Couts will be handling the bookings handling it for her.
Page 5
