Minutes of a Meeting of the
Parks and Recreation Commission
August 6, 2007

Environmental Issues

Mr. Lasko noted that the environmental issues at the park have improved dramatically. His daughter
has been at the Park on at least three occasions with kids from the High School participating in late
summer evening scrimmages on the basketball court, and there have been no issues. Mr. Dailey said
there were some issues at the beginning of the summer, but the North Olmsted Police Department,
Safety Director Terbrack and Chief Wasniak have done a great job having the presence there. The
problem has moved out. Mr. Barker said that, just listening to the radio, he knew it just wasn’t North
Olmsted – it was all over the County. He pulled back there one day, and there was a cruiser back
there with two officers.

Key Card Access

Mr. Lasko asked about previous discussions at meetings regarding key card access to the Rec Center.
Mr. DiSalvo said that it for all intents and purposes, this is a dead issue because it would not be
fiscally responsible.

NEW BUSINESS

Anna Kanis Resignation

Mr. Lasko moved to accept, but with regret, the resignation of Anna Kanis for the reasons that she has
expressed in her letter of August 2, 2007 and, at the same time, move to recognize her years of service
to the Parks and Recreation Commission and to the City of North Olmsted as a whole. Mr. Barker
seconded. Roll call was then taken: Messrs. Lasko, Dailey, Barker, and Groden all agreed
unanimously. A copy of Ms. Kanis’ letter is attached hereto.

Homecoming

Mr. Dailey said that Homecoming will be coming up the end of August. Rec Commission will be
running their free throw shooting. The City will be doing something different this year. The City will
not be in the Senior Center but will be in the Midway at night. The School is going to be in the big
tent on Thursday night, the City of North Olmsted will be in the big tent on Friday night, Community
Council will have it on Saturday night, and it will be sponsored by the Chamber of Council for the
Band on Sunday night. On Friday night, the City of North Olmsted will be hosting a spaghetti dinner.
Proceeds will benefit the USO and also to help out those less fortunate in North Olmsted. The price
might be a goodwill offering. The meal will run from about 6:00 to 8:00 or 8:30 at the latest. At 7:00
there will be a presentation from Paul Schumann on the history of North Olmsted, followed by a very
brief State of the City Address on the future of North Olmsted by Mayor O’Grady. At the same time,
the City will have displays around the perimeter of the tent.
Page 7
