Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
February 5, 2007

After Motion duly made and seconded, Mr. John Lasko was nominated as Co-Chairperson for the year
2007. Roll call was then taken. Mr. Dailey, Mr. Barker, Mr. Scarl, Ms. Kanis and Mr. Groden all
replied affirmatively, and the Motion passed unanimously.

VISITOR’S OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS COMMISSION

Ms. Kanis asked Mr. Garrity if he had anything to say. Mr. Garrity replied that Mr. Dailey could
address what he wanted to know: the Rec Master Plan update and what is going to happen at the Rec
Center. Mr. Garrity said that there is a lot of uneasiness with the Hockey Club because they are not
hearing anything that is happening. There is a fear that some of the teams might jump to another
location. One of the NOHC ex-coaches is forming teams at the AAA level out of Winterhurst. The
peewee team that is at the Rec now is almost like that, but they have stayed in-house because they are
happy with the facility; they like the ice times, and they are or were the second-ranked peewee team in
the state. Ms. Kanis added that from area leading scorers, as noted in the newspaper, 11 from the 24
came from the NOHC. Mr. Garrity said that, if you look at area high schools, ninety percent are at
NOHC: Olmsted Falls, Elyria Catholic, Midview, and they like their home.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of December 2006

Upon Motion made and duly seconded, the Minutes of December 2006 were approved unanimously.

SUB COMMITTEE REPORTS

None

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Financial Report: Income Statements

Mr. DiSalvo presented three Recreation Department Income Statements, copy attached. There is a
nice comparison between 2006 and 2007 for January of each year on the first page. Gymnastics is
doing about the same as last year. The pool shows a significant increase, and Mr. DiSalvo is expecting
this to continue for the rest of the year. With Cindy (Bartko) in place, she is doing a much better job
as far as programming to generate revenues through the pool. Last year we were short close to
$40,000 for the pool, so Cindy is definitely doing a better job generating revenue. The ice rink
revenue, again, is up from the previous year. As far as tennis is concerned, the Commissioner is not
concerned with the decrease, as it will balance out over the entire year. Individual and team sports are
consistent right now; the Rec is midway through the basketball season. With spring coming up,
enrollments for all the summer programs will increase. Enrichment programming is going forward this
year because Jenny Couts is teaching all her own classes as a full time supervisor. It means more arts
and crafts and learning type programs with little children, such as science projects. The majority
Page 2
