Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
February 5, 2007

Senior Center is where it will be (they will share the wall). There will be outside access. There will be
one tree taken down. Mr. Barker said the restroom is tied in with the CDBG Grant, so it’s a win-win
situation. The CDBG Grant also covers the new playground.

This concluded the report of the Community Life Services Director.

OLD BUSINESS

Janco Services Industries

Mr. DiSalvo reported that the Rec Department has met with Janco three times. They are having
turnover issues; however, that is no excuse because the place is not getting cleaned like it should be.
It is to a point now where if the situation does not improve, the City should breach that contract. The
Rec is not that hard to clean, and it’s still not getting cleaned the way it should be. Mr. Dailey said
that the Law Director has advised us that we can get out of the contract. However, in fairness to the
cleaning company, this is the toughest time of the year to clean this building. Everything is dragged in
from the street: dirty shoes, slush, etc. Plus, it’s the heaviest time of usage. Hopefully, Janco is
working it out. Their references checked out impeccably with other recreation centers. Some
improvement is being made. Mr. DiSalvo said that the team leader shows up at 11:00 at night to
verify as well. Mr. Barker figured the Commissioner was on top of the matter, but he heard a negative
report from an individual. Mr. DiSalvo said that would probably be true, unfortunately, because
we’ve been on the cleaning people every day. There is a checklist from which they work. If the crew
doesn’t show up, the management team comes in to do the work as built-in back up. The crew knows
now to call the management team if the crew will not be able to be hear.

Concession

Ms. Kanis asked how the lady was doing in the Concession area. Mr. Dailey said she pays her bill
each month. Mr. Garrity said the food is good and she’s helped NOHC a lot.

Vending Machines

The vending machines are doing better and better.

This concluded Old Business.

NEW BUSINESS

New Members

Ms. Kanis welcomed the new members to the Commission and thanked them for coming on board.
Page 7
