Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 4, 2007

and then they are there until dark. The horse shoe people have problems with them there. There are a
bunch of groups there that are trash talking with vulgar language, and there are many little kids around
there.

Mr. Garrity asked if the backboards can be removed behind the hoops without the poles being
removed, or is it all one piece. Mr. DiSalvo said that they are attached like that. Mr. kGarrity said
that, perhaps, the Rec Department could take the poles down for a few weeks, saying they are in for
repairs, and see what happens. Mr. DiSalvo said that there is also the fact that the Rec Department
has summer basketball leagues.

Mr. Lasko repeated that it’s an enforcement issue, and now that the police have tried the overt
enforcement, perhaps it’s time to try the covert enforcement.

Mr. Baxter said that it’s a shame to do away with something like the basketball courts that belong in
the Park.

Mr. DiSalvo said that the Rec Department will work on the above issue.

Outdoor Pool

Mr. DiSalvo reported that most of the capital outlay went to the outdoor pool this summer. The Rec
Department bought an 18’ by 27’ shading structure that will be installed this week. Planter benches
have been installed. Pool chairs and chaises have been purchased and delivered, and there are two
new lifeguard chairs. There was $13,000 for cap improvements, and it went to the outdoor pool,
because the Rec had none of the above the last five years. Hopefully the shading structure will be
beneficial to our patrons.

Summer Program Projects

Mr. DiSalvo said that the Maintenance Department has done a wonderful job in keeping on schedule
with summer projects in addition to maintaining normal operations and duties.

Mr. Lasko said that, just driving in tonight, he was very pleased seeing a brand new American Flag on
top of the flagpole. Last month, it wasn’t displayed correctly; it wasn’t a new flag – it was a flag that
clearly should have been retired – and whatever it was that the Maintenance Department needed to do,
it was done. Mr. DiSalvo thanked Mr. Lasko and said he would pass it on. The entire guts of it were
replaced, and the pole was repainted.

All Scouts Weekend

th
All Scouts Weekend begins this Friday, June 8, and ends on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Noon. The
High School has removed the temporary fence on Diamond #1. Mr. Lasko said that, as an aside, he
spoke with Joe Hyland, Director of Facilities, North Olmsted City Schools, inquiring on Norm’s
Page 5
