Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 4, 2007

(Baxter) behalf. Joe said they wait to hear from the City as to when to take it down. Mr. Lasko’s
knowledge of umpiring at the high school level can’t fathom, unless it is an extraordinarily weather
spring, it could and should be done before the Memorial Day Weekend so that people in the City have
the unrestricted use of the Park by Memorial Day. Mr. DiSalvo said he was told that it would
definitely be done by June 5, 2007, so that’s why it happened then. Mr. Lasko said that, again,
speaking from experience as an umpire, only in the first and second rounds of the tournament do you
play at a traditional city’s school home field. After that, they all move to a neutral site. Again, barring
a dramatic event with the weather, they are finished by the middle of May. To say that they should be
down by Memorial Day is not inconveniencing anyone.

Independence Day Celebration

There will be a bike contest/parade/picnic scheduled for Wednesday, July 4, 2007 – see attached
itinerary for the Order of Events. Volunteers are welcome. Representatives from Council show up,
and members of the Rec Commission are invited. If you want to cook, had out soda, or just march in
the parade, you are more than welcome. Mr. Baxter asked if there would be anything political about
this celebration. Mr. DiSalvo said that no, this one is non-political and non-commercial – meaning
only North Olmsted politicians will be part of the celebration, no senators/congressmen.

This year we have ordered 400 hot dogs; soft drinks as well, and candy will be available for the kids
games. Mr. DiSalvo said he would prefer to run out of food than have anything left over so that food
isn’t thrown away.

End of May Financial Reports

Mr. DiSalvo reported that the monthly financial reports are available, copies attached. The May target
percentage is 41 percent. The overall percentage for revenues are up 47.40 percent, and the expenses
are up 41.30, so the Rec Department is right on target. Some of the Departments have exceeded,
some are a little below. This is a good indication for almost a half year, and Mr. DiSalvo is pleased
with the Rec Department’s expense control, and the generation of revenues. As an example:
Gymnastics shows 46.70 percent with revenues, but this past week she had her commission check cut
for those revenues; probably the next time the Commission has a meeting, those numbers will be
flipped because she will cut her registration since then but not have been paid. That always washes
out at the end of the year. That is probably the biggest thing that is shown as far as expenses being
different to revenues; o.w., Enrichment is very high right now because they collected all the money for
summer camp, but none of the expenses have gone up yet. Generally speaking, with the pool, ice rink
and tennis and team sports, they are in line as far as income to expenses.

The month-to-date detail is on target as well. Other than Chris Wetmore with team sports seems like
every other year softball registrations is sky high and then it falls. It must be connected with the sizes
of the classes with the schools.
Page 6
