Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 4, 2007

The Recreation Programs Income Statement Comparison shows $535,000+ this year compared to
$491,000+ last year at this time. The pool is what has made the difference this year, compared to the
previous year.

Mr. Baxter said that he thought it was great that there was a comparison being made with the
financials, comparing this year and last year. It’s a good indication of what the Rec Department is
doing.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

VISITOR’S OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS COMMISSION

Emerald Necklace Girls’ Team

Ms. Marie Peepers introduced herself as working with the Emerald Necklace Girls’ Team. She had
arrived at about 7:15 p.m.; and Ms. Kanis now opened the floor for her comment. She said that she
had never been to a Parks and Recreation Department Commission Meeting, but that she wanted to
see what went on, it being an open forum. She had issues with the Girls’ Team not being able to play
the previous Saturday because the Hot Stove team scheduled before Emerald Necklace had not
played, the Emerald Necklace team could have played the 1:30 game. Then she got a call from Joe
Vitale stating that there was a field at the Park available for Emerald Necklace, so there was a
Strongsville team waiting and moving everyone to the Park. She said that there was a game Thursday
night where the fields weren’t lined, and she understood that Emerald Necklace was working on that
issue with Hot Stove. They had contact with the company, but the company did not have the stencils
for home plate, so the field wasn’t lined Saturday for anyone to play. Mr. DiSalvo asked what field it
was. Ms. Peepers said it was at Spruce: she said that she had heard that the City wouldn’t touch the
schools. It appears that the problem is a double scheduling issue. For home games, she continued,
she did not know what to expect. Mr. DiSalvo asked if Joe Vitale was in charge of scheduling.

Mr. Scarl said that, in response to Spruce Field, Hot Stove personally pays for that field. Hot Stove
contacted Emerald Necklace (Joe Vitale) and asked him to sit down with the Hot Stove people and
come up with a plan if he wanted to come on board with Hot Stove. Once Hot Stove found out that
the City wasn’t going to take care of that field anymore, which they had done in the past, the expense
was dropped on Hot Stove at the eleventh hour. That’s why the field was barely done for opening
weekend. There will be a contract to maintain it. Hot Stove is limited there (at Spruce) until school is
out this week. Once school is out, Hot Stove can go on that property.

Ms. Peepers said that it is hard to get the Emerald Necklace games scheduled there. There are teams
coming in from other cities, and she is just trying to find out what is going on. This was her second
year with the Emerald Necklace coaching. She was trying to get a feel with the ebb and flow of what
was supposed to happen.
Page 7
