Minutes of a Meeting of The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission June 4, 2007 Mr. DiSalvo asked when Ms. Peepers said she got a call, who was it from? She said she was told that the fields are gone by Joe Vitale. He then called her back and said that Field #4 is lined, and that the Emerald Necklace team could use it. Mr. DiSalvo asked if Field #4 was not available, would Emerald Necklace have played that day? Ms. Peepers said that they probably would have, without lines on the field. Ms. Peepers clarified by saying she was out running some errands about 11:30 and saw little guys playing, which is OK. She noted that she was supposed to play in two hours, and how long are they going to play? They had their uniforms on. Then she was walking her dog going on Noon, and she saw another child going to the field and wondered what was going to happen to her game at 1:30. The other team did not show, and Emerald Necklace was ready to play. Mr. DiSalvo said he knows city fields are prepared and are relined as well. Mr. Scarl said that at Spruce, Hot Stove does the work privately and, until Emerald Necklace comes on board – and probably he will call Joe Vitale to see where it stands – Hot Stove will line the field for its games, but if Joe doesn’t come on board with that, Hot Stove will not be lining it for Emerald Necklace. Ms. Peepers asked Mr. Scarl to please talk to Joe Vitale, as she was getting a different read from him. Mr. Scarl said he would. Ms. Peepers continued that there was a scheduling conflict last year – there was a Lakewood team coming in during the week; Emerald Necklace had a game and got the field at Spruce. We ended up at the Park again last year, and it’s unsettling. Mr. Scarl said that at Spruce, Hot Stove gets permission through the School Board, and permits were given. Ms. Peepers understands that. He did not know when Emerald Necklace goes to get their permits. There is a master schedule. Mr. DiSalvo asked if Ms. Peepers ever had a copy of the schedule, or did Joe Vitale have it. Ms. Peepers said that Joe gives Emerald Necklace dates that they can get the field, and then Ms. Peepers goes to her coaches’ meeting when the coaches get together, and then the schedule is flushed out. Mr. Groden said that his daughters ran into the same problem last year – they are on the Emerald Necklace Team – and he thought it was a Hot Stove game scheduled for the same field, same time. Mr. Scarl said he knows there were a lot of problems on who was doing the scheduling last year. He had a lot of double bookings as well with North Olmsted teams that play in the Puritas League vs. Hot Stove residents and having those people complain to him. It looked really bad last year. This year, Mr. Scarl continued, there has been no problem as yet. Mr. DiSalvo asked who issued the permits for the school games? Mr. Lasko said it was Dr. Sebring, who is retired. Now it goes through the administration. Ms. Kanis asked who has the Master Schedule. Mr. DiSalvo said the schools must have it. Mr. Scarl said that the Rec Department has it. Mr. DiSalvo asked why. Mr. Scarl said it is because it was included with all the city teams; everyone is using the fields between Hot Stove and Emerald Neckace. Mr. DiSalvo asked if Hot Stove was Page 8
