Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
March 5, 2007

levy passed in 2007. Construction would be started in 2009; probably 2011 for finish. Mr. Barker
said this is a presentation; there is nothing set in stone. There is the ice figure, and if everybody wants
to see ice, ice may be represented. We’re all still getting information, as last week was the first time
the Commission saw the information. The administration, Council, and residents will take our time in
determining what can be done. It will not be a quick rubber stamp. Mr. Dailey said that the meeting
on Thursday was specifically designed for the public to hear and people to speak out. North Olmsted
is a very vocal community, and the City anticipates their comments. We don’t expect to have three
tennis people to come and talk about tennis; we don’t expect to have a lot of people to come forward
for the fitness center; we expect most of it to be arguments about losing the ice at this point. It’s
getting slowly planned out. If we can get $2 million funded, and then present the public with another
$2 million through outside interests; now we need $20 million, hopefully, that will make it more
saleable. There is a lot of work to do yet. Mr. DiSalvo said that we have to address Hockey.
Everyone knows that the rink is on its last leg right now, and it’s also the main income generator for
the Rec, are we going to sink $200-$300,000 in it to keep it going the next four years? That needs to
be answered for the hockey people because they book so far in advance. Mr. Scarl said that, overall,
the whole building needs to be maintained, it’s just a matter of how much it’s going to cost. Mr.
Barker said that if we come up with a good plan and go to the residents and it doesn’t pass, then what
do we do? We need a plan “C” just in case the Master Plan doesn’t pass.

th
Ms. Kanis asked who are going to be making the presentation at the Middle School on March 8?
Mr. Dailey said it would be the same people who made the presentation to the Council. Mr. DiSalvo
asked if Council members would be asked questions? Mr. Barker said that Council is not even in the
picture yet; this would be the consulting firm and the administration. It will be an open forum. Mr.
Garrity said to put the cards on the table so that the public will know what’s going on. Mr. Barker
said that the process that we’re traveling through is just the way the process works: it was presented
to the Rec Committee and Commission; now it’s going to the public, and after all is discussed, it will
come back to the Rec Committee and discuss again among Council. It’s not in Council’s pocket right
now. Mr. Garrity said that should be made known.

This concluded the Visitors’ Opportunity to Address the Commission.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of February 2007

Upon Motion made and duly seconded, the Minutes of February 5, 2007 were approved unanimously.
Upon Motion made and duly seconded, the Minutes of February 19, 2007 were approved
unanimously.

SUB COMMITTEE REPORTS

th
Mr. DiSalvo reminded the Sub Committee to attend the March 8 meeting on the Rec Master Plan for
the second presentation at 7:00 p.m.
Page 8
