Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
March 5, 2007

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Rink Closing

st
Mr. DiSalvo reported to the Commission that the Rink was scheduled to close from May 21 of this
st
year through July 31 for preventative maintenance and general equipment repairs. The Rink will re-
open for business on August 1, 2007. To make myself clear: it is closing for preventative
maintenance and general equipment repairs. It is not for a major renovation. Mr. Baxter asked if
there was money budgeted for this projected. Mr. DiSalvo said it was, but Council said that if the Rec
runs into any problems to keep them fully aware of them and try to get some extra funding. We are
replacing a compressor for $9,000, which has been approved. Mr. Garrity said that there are eight
compressors; they must work in tandem, and one’s been down, so the others must work harder. This
is nice to hear. Mr. Dailey asked if Mr. DiSalvo heard anything from Jeff Marshall. Mr. DiSalvo said
that Mr. Marshall is communicating inaccurate information because the Maintenance Department is in
charge; he is the skating pro here, and the Commissioner does not know where he is getting his
information from, but he is wrong. He has never approached Mr. DiSalvo, Ms. Drenski, or Tom Stein
about the matter.

Revenue Report - Income

Mr. DiSalvo reported that the Rec Department’s budget is not finalized and expenses are not final as
well. Basically, gymnastics is doing fine, pool revenue is up 32% from the prior year; she’s doing a
great job – two months in a row where she’s exceeded her plan by $10,000, so she’s almost $20,000
ahead right now. Ice rink is doing great. By next meeting, tennis revenues will be up. Individual and
team sports is down a little, but there is nothing going on until springtime for new registrations.
Enrichment programming is up 72% from the prior year. That program is just taking off right now;
Jenny is adding eight new enrichment programs in addition to the camp program. Revenues are
looking very good. The Commissioner said that the expenses are in line. Detailed information is on
the back page.

Ms. Kanis asked if there were any questions for the Commissioner. Mr. Dailey said it’s nice to see the
numbers trending upward from last year.

Hot Stove Donation

Mr. Barker said that there is a resolution not on the Agenda presented today in caucus last week. The
proper procedure is that it is presented to the administration, comes to committee, committee sends it
to commission, commission approves, comes back to committee, and then committee discusses and
passes. Mr. Dailey said that Mr. Scarl could present on behalf of Hot Stove but not vote on the
Motion, as it would be a conflict of interest.
Page 9
