Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
October 1, 2007

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Financial Review

In the absence of the Recreation Commissioner, the Assistant Recreation Commissioner, Betsy
Drenski, reported to the Commission on the September 2007 Month-to-Date Revenue Detail and the
Recreation Programs Income Statement Comparison. Overall, she said, total program revenue is up
but that Rink is still struggling. Individual and Team Sports still show a little under what they were
last year; otherwise, everything else is showing above where they were last year at this time.

Ms. Drenski said that she is trying her best with the Rink; she is having trouble finding people to cover
spots that were lost by the clubs. She is working on selling ice, but it is just breaking even to what the
Rec Department would have had if the North Olmsted Hockey Club kept what was had last year. The
Assistant Commissioner continued by saying that she has covered everything dropped so far. Ms.
Drenski said that the Learn to Skate Program is doing better This session is up 21 children from
previous years, and it was one of our better fall sessions. Mr. Dailey said that it was marketed better
this year than what has happened in the past. It was mentioned on the marquee at City Hall – he did
not know if it was on the one at the Park or not. Jenny Couts is doing a remarkable job on getting the
flyers out as well. They were sent to Olmsted Falls schools within the past few weeks, and Mr. Dailey
believes that Betsy could report that there have been calls on those flyers. Betsy said that Jenny and
Ted (DiSalvo) took flyers to Olmsted Falls schools on Thursday by Noon, and by 3:00 p.m. there were
parents whose child came home with a flyer calling and ready to sign up. Ms. Drenski said that Jenny
tried to go to Avon and North Ridgeville but was denied access to passing out flyers at these schools.
Still, 4,000 flyers are about what are being distributed.

Ms. Drenski asked if there were any questions about the rest of the numbers on the financial reports.

Mr. Dailey said it’s encouraging to see Tennis getting ahead of where it was last year – he knew it’s
been lagging behind – so that’s a good trend.

Ms. Drenski said that Enrichment is ahead, and Jenny still has winter camp for at least three days after
the Holidays. In Swimming, another session starts this Monday, so that program is doing well. There
will be one more session of learn to skate as well, so there are a number of programs to go yet.

Mr. Lasko asked if there were any other questions.

Field #1

Ms. Drenski asked Mr. Dailey if he would talk about the Field information. Mr. Dailey said that a few
months ago the Recreation Department approached both the Hot Stove organization and the North
Olmsted
Page 2
