Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 10, 2007

Mr. Lasko said that he is sure Mr. Dailey has noted Ms. Nader’s interest as well. Mr. Dailey said he
and Ms. Kilbane are aware of this matter. Mr. Lasko thanked Ms. Nader for coming.

Mr. Dailey said that Ms. Nader is an avid user of the Recreation Center; she has been playing tennis
for years; she’s skated for years. Her son, Sam, went through North Olmsted schools through eighth
grade and now, he’s at a St. Ignatius for high school, and he’s a hockey player as well. She definitely
has an interest in the Rec Department.

Ms. Kathy Smith then introduced herself, 6053 Sherwood, North Olmsted, and is currently an
Assistant to the Vice President on the Cleveland Edges Board, and was also on the North Olmsted
Hockey Club Board; she has five children in the North Olmsted school system and has been using the
North Olmsted Rec Department for years. She has three hockey players on the high school team and
has a daughter on Cleveland Edges. Mr. Lasko said that he was glad she was at the meeting as well.

Mr. Ed Garrity, 4620 Porter, North Olmsted, introduced himself as the current President of the North
Olmsted Hocky Club, and has been for the past four years, and is still interested in what is happening
with the Rec Master Plan and in seeing it brought to some kind of conclusion. Mr. Lasko said that
Mr. Garrity gets an award for his diligence and perseverance in his attendance month after month.

SUB COMMITTEE REPORTS

None

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Financial Review

Mr. DiSalvo began his report with the financial review of the month of August, year-to-date end of the
month recreation department financial report. The target percentage is 66% and, going down the line,
Administration, Enrichment, Pool, Tennis are in line; a little bit low in Gymanstics and Team Sports;
and Rink’s not a surprise, since it was closed all summer, and the Rec Department knows it has some
st;
ground to make up from now until December 31we’ll be diligently getting the ice rented.

Mr. Garrity said that the North Olmsted Hockey Club has been, for lack of a better term, “raided” by
supposed AAA teams that are not going to be playing out of Winterhurst. The NOHC is not AAA;
supposedly we are an AA team. We are trying to form berth year teams. This is happening in
baseball, and now it’s being pushed in hockey. It’s impacting because the kids are trying to skate out
of a certain rink, and they are being pushed over to Winterhurst. One reason is that the teams are
unsure of the opener and two that the driving force is there at Winterhurst (Ron Shark and Joe
Geiger). Last year we had ten travel teams; this year, the NOHC has seven. The NOHC has slimmed
its ice, and Mr. Garrity suggested to Ms. Drenski who would possibly want the ice: one being the
Cleveland Edges and two being some of the teams from Winterhurst because ice is not going to be
available there. Three would be the fact that there are a couple of high school teams that are biting at
Page 2
