Recreation Commission Meeting
December 6, 2004

Play Equipment

The Commissioner passed pictures of the before and after play equipment at North Olmsted Park
among the Members of the Commission.

In addition to installing the new equipment, the safety zone was done as well, consisting of thick,
spongy mulch. The equipment was installed within two days; the crew did a fine job of it.

The Members commented on how nice the equipment looked. Mr. DiSalvo said that the small
"steam shovel" is in the center of the equipment will be expanded upon for the two-to-five-year-
old children. The only thing done completely was the equipment for the five-to-twelve-year-olds.

Ms. Jones asked what happened to the old equipment; Mr. DiSalvo replied that it was scrapped.

Basketball Court

Ms. Jones asked about the condition of the basketball courts, saying how beautiful they looked
when she saw them. Mr. DiSalvo replied that there has been no report of vandalism. Mr. Miller
noted that a mother pulled her vehicle on the newly seeded grass of the Courts and was seen
putting her children's bicycles in the trunk. When questioned, she responded that she didn't know
she shouldn't do that; she was not from around the area. Mr. DiSalvo said that the damage
consisted of mud tracks from the tires, and there was no further damage done. Mr. Miller asked
the Commissioner if he wanted to consider a snow fence around the area; not on the South Side;
Ms. Drenski said that there is a fence on the East Side, apparently where the lady pulled up her
car. There is now a snow fence along the drive that runs along the side of the basketball courts.
There will be a permanent, chain-link fence installed there in the spring.

Boy Scout Project for Trees

The tree labeling by the Boy Scouts will be done in the spring of 2005 because the weather
stopped it for the remainder of 2004.

Sand Box Area

Mr. Baxter said there is an area that looks like it contained a sandbox that's become unsightly. It
could look nicer. Mr. Baxter continued by saying that if someone invested a small amount of
money into shrubbery it would look much better. Mr. DiSalvo replied that the area will be taken
care of in 2005 with the materials left over from 2004, and that new benches will be bought as
well. The Maintenance Department has received many compliments on their work, providing
momentum to continue to do so.
Page 2
