Recreation Commission Meeting
December 6, 2004

Bathrooms

Ms. Jones asked about the bathrooms at the park: what was decided as to when they are going to
be fixed? Mr. DiSalvo said that the current sign indicates that they are closed until spring. The
reason why they are closed is because the pipes are exposed to the winter weather. The past two
springs have been late, so it's taken longer to thaw out. There are now two port-a-johns that can
be used during the off-season. No one was aware of that because the sign was never posted. The
sign is there now giving the dates that the restrooms are definitely closed and that port-a-potties
are available.

"Viewing" Area in Concession for Tennis Courts

The Rec Center has the capability of setting up a viewing area in concession for tennis
tournaments (using existing equipment). This will help alleviate the current viewing issue in the
tennis area. LCD Projectory (Movies in the Park) was able to tap into the cable line and view the
tournaments on the wall and actually split them into four different strings. What is wanted in the
Tennis Department from Cheryl Steele is a surveillance system provided by her husband. Mr.
Steele has four different cameras from the security company where he works, which will be
donated to the Rec Center. All four courts can be watched on separate screens in the concession
area. This capability would be used for tournaments. Mr. Kelley asked if this would be done in-
house; Mr. DiSalvo responded, "Yes." The only thing that would be bought would be the co-axle
for the hook-ups. The Tennis Pro, Rick Kroboth, will be doing the split screen projecting. There
are two major tennis tournaments that are before Movies in the Park.

Eventually, the Commissioner would like to have viewing areas for swimming and gymnastics as
well as the Tennis Courts.

RFP for Phase II of Rec Security

The Request for Proposal for Phase II of Rec Security was approved. The bidding process will be
held in January of 2005. Bids will go out to vendors to provide the Rec Center with general
specifications on what their systems can do. Video capabilities of monitoring areas within the Rec
will be examined; access has not been considered yet. Because there are no memberships at the
Rec Center, it would be difficult to get everyone an access code to enter the building. The RFP
has been paid for; Joe Rice will now provide his services by reviewing the bids and make
recommendations. He will be a good referral to provide access service in the future.

Jani-King

The cleaning contract was awarded to Jani-King, the present contractor. The Board of Control
voted on this matter last Thursday. The price will be $2,000 less for 2005 than 2004 because
Jani-King calculated 12 months of cleanup in the park rather than seven. Mr. Miller asked if there
would be tighter supervision and a checklist of what the company provided for the Rec
Page 3
