Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 1, 2005

guard, whose name was Nancy. Nancy proceeded to tell the Commissioner that Ron Koch left
her his keys; he resigned. Mr. DiSalvo said to her that she never met this person in her life; she
was hired as a security guard who has nothing to do with NOSO, and Ron Koch resigned to her.
The Commissioner thought something was very wrong. In the meantime, he contacted Mr.
Limpert and asked for his backing so that if Mr. Koch showed up with tow trucks the police
could be involved. After 7:30 that evening, Mr. Koch disappeared, and Mr. DiSalvo has not
heard from him since. The tournament went on smoothly with no problems. He contacted the
ex-President of NOSO, David Saunders, wondering what was going on. Apparently, Ron’s a
postal worker, was overstressed and just “went postal” that day. The problem was that he was
getting into the Commissioner’s business and the City of North Olmsted’s business, and he has no
right to do that. Everyone has apologized about this matter except for Ron Koch.

In the meantime, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (previously mentioned) would like to
th
have a Lacrosse tournament at Barton/Bradley October 14 through 16, 2005. Chris (Wetmore)
said it’s wide open to use the field; the Rec Department checked; and Chris then told NOSO our
plans. Here is NOSO’s E-Mail on this subject: “Just to let you know our in-house travel league
games are still going on until the end of October. If Ted has his Lacrosse Tournament on October
thth
14 through 16, we will bang heads. I can move some of the in-house games depending on the
number of fields Ted will need. I can move some of the fields Ted will need and maybe some of
the travel games. I’m not sure how many travel games because I’m working on the map schedule
now. Hope you get a copy soon.” This was the person in charge of scheduling for NOSO. Mr.
DiSalvo believes he is missing something here. Am I missing something, Commission? (he
asked). Our communication lines with NOSO are open. Through programming and permits, the
Commissioner understands if you’re not quite sure how many teams you’re going to have, you
may need to expand. This is two months out; it’s wide open for use. It’s been arranged where
they can rearrange their schedule. Mr. Limpert, said that as far as NOSO, NOSO has done a lot
of wonderful things for this community but, for the record, it should be known that when NOSO
talks about “their” park at Barton/Bradley and “their” fields, if you follow the timeline of history,
this is a park that belongs to the City of North Olmsted with land bought by the City of North
Olmsted, it wasn’t even bought with Recreation in mind. It was try to entice St. John’s Hospital
to locate to North Olmsted. The city fathers were told it’s a done deal if you get this land locked
up. Almost like a water line being a done deal for a professional soccer camp. It’s worked out
well that the City has that extra park land, but NOSO gets a little possessive about it.

The Commission Members asked Mr. DiSalvo if Ron Koch was back or not. Mr. DiSalvo said,
“No, and at this point, I’m over it.” He wanted to have the Commission aware of the matter so
that the Commission would back the Rec Department on the matter. Ms. Jones said, “Doesn’t he
live right there.” Mr. DiSalvo said, “Yes, his back yard is Barton/Bradley.” Ms. Jones said, “He
was the caretaker or what?” Mr. DiSalvo replied that he was concerned with the time and energy
Page 21
