Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 7, 2005

For Profit or Not For Profit

Ms. Meredith asked if it North Olmsted was a for-profit or not-for-profit organization. Mr. DiSalvo
said North Olmsted Rec Center is a community center. Mr. Limpert said the goal is to break even as
much as possible between the revenue brought in and the tax for recreation. Over the years,
significant monies have been brought in from the general fund to help the Rec Center, e.g.,
improvements in the ice rink. Ms. Meredith asked how North Olmsted compared to the other cities.
She tried to gather data and did not get all the details on what other cities charge, but it looks like
North Olmsted is very inexpensive. Is there an opportunity to raise rates and still have the same
number of people come? Mr. Limpert said that he believes so, but the rates would be raised slowly.
Mr. Baxter said that, long ago, we did not just set rates for North Olmsted residents only, whereas
other cities offer their services for their residents only. Ms. Jones said that other cities charge
membership just to belong, and it’s very expensive. Mr. Limpert said that the same situation happened
a while back, and North Olmsted did not have the quality worth paying for; to him, North Olmsted is
getting up to par as best it can. Ms. Meredith said that the price is not what is keeping the people
from coming. If the people are coming for programs and lessons, they are the people who should be
charged more. The main draw, Mr. DiSalvo said, is the ice rink, tennis and parks programming.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

Upon Motion made, duly seconded and unanimously approved, the meeting adjourned at
8:03 p.m. The next meeting of the North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission will be
December 5, 2005.

Accepted and Approved:

________________________________________________________________________
William D. Kelley, Chairman

________________________________________________________________________
Judith A. Ptacek-Roche, Secretary

Date: _____________________________

Page 8
