Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 7, 2005

OLD BUSINESS

HVAC Units

Ms. Powell said that, on behalf of herself and Cheryl Steele and really all the tennis players at the Rec
Center that they say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you” for the heating and ventilation system over
the tennis courts. It’s almost like a miracle, but some people made it happen. She thanked Ted
(DiSalvo) for defining it in his budget with Duane Limpert. Ms. Powell also thanked the Rec
Commission, which supported the priorities and the expenditure of the capital improvement fund. City
Council is also to be thanked for granting the funds, so it really was a cooperative effort. For tennis,
this is a very, very big deal.

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Lasko said that he knows he is only stating the obvious, but there is an Issue on the ballot
tomorrow, 169, which will have a significant impact on the park and recreational opportunities for the
residents of North Olmsted. Clearly, the schools here are bringing the issue forward because there are
concerns that the schools have in terms of their own facilities for the delivery of educational services.
That’s a big part of it, but there is also a significant component in this issue that will directly impact on
the recreational abilities and facilities for all residents of North Olmsted. We’ve got a great working
relationship and one that will only continue to get better between the city and the schools in many
respects, including athletic and recreational facilities and the passage of that issue tomorrow will
continue to enhance where life is for North Olmsted residents, so I have to state the obvious and ask
for a vote for Issue 169 tomorrow.

(Positive, overlapping conversation about the high school football team’s success in 2005).

Background Checks

Ms. Meredith asked if there were background checks instituted. Mr. DiSalvo said that we will do it
with any contractors. Mr. Limpert said by policy it will be done with the employees and the
volunteers.

Outdoor Concession Stand for the Pool

Ms. Meredith asked if there was an outdoor concession stand for the pool, citing the success at Rocky
River. Mr. DiSalvo said that soft drinks and packaged food is served outdoors. Food must be served
at the indoor concession stand. The busier the Rec is, the busier the concession stand will be. Mr.
Kelley said that what must be realized is the times that the pools were closed and the resultant loss of
business.
Page 7
