Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 12, 2005

everything is prioritized. Mr. Limpert said an example is the indoor pool room. Mr. Limpert said
that he would like to go on record as saying that at the next Recreation Commission meeting he
thinks it appropriate that whatever the most current numbers Mr. DiSalvo can get, the
Commission members see. Mr. DiSalvo agreed, and said it would be probably be August or
perhaps September’s numbers that would be presented in October because he wants to give the
Commission something that makes sense.

Mr. Baxter had a question: there was to be a fence put up on one side of the basketball courts.
The last time he walked through that area, there was no fence. He thought it was a question of it
being put in place, not a question of funds. Mr. Stein said he got three quotes; sometimes if you
get a fence contractor in the summer, it takes until fall for placement.

Mr. Kelley had a question regarding the beam over the pool: it went through engineering; did the
engineering firm give any discussion to replacing the beam instead of repairing it. In other words,
shore it up, take it out, put another one right backup. Labor-wise, it’s a lot less man hours. Mr.
Limpert said that the engineering people said it would be a lot more expensive to shore it up. The
company came highly recommended to us by our Plans Examiner, and when we checked their
references, it came back very good. They said that we could go that route, but the impression the
Safety Director got would be much less economical to try to achieve it that way. Mr. Kelley said
that, aesthetically, the beam will be noticed now. Once it is repaired and there are gussets there
and they are boxed in, the beam will stick out like a sore thumb. The Chairman said that in his
experience in construction, he can’t believe that a contractor can’t come to the Rec Center with a
couple of hydraulic units, support the roof, and with a picker, take the old one out and put the
new one up: done in a lot less time and man hours and, in his opinion, a lot less money.

This concluded the Report of the Recreation Commissioner.
REPORT OF THE SAFETY DIRECTOR

Indoor Pool Beam Repair Status

Mr. Limpert said that, as of Friday, September 9, 2005, received the drawings that came in from
the engineering firm. He asked them to forward names of three companies that might be good for
the project. The Safety Director did not want to take the time to go through the RFP process and
advertise for bids in the paper. The firm gave him three suggestions, two of whom he was able to
call. Friday he received the prints, copied them in the Engineering Department, mailed out copies.
He wanted to have at least three companies and also wanted to go with a company that might be a
wild card in the mix, so one set of drawings was sent to a manufacturer’s rep for fabrication and
asked a member of the Commission who has some familiarity with the matter for a
recommendation for another set of prints. Again, the engineering firm came highly recommended
to us, and Mr. Limpert appreciated the fact that they gave him directions on where to head.
Page 13
