Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 12, 2005

hope is to further improve the facilities at the Park for not only the North Olmsted High School
team but also for any teams in the community that would be willing to use it. Mr. Carras said he
was sure that Hot Stove would take advantage of it. There are several reasons the Schools would
like to do that: one is for the improvement of the facility, and some of that is for personal benefit
in that the North Olmsted team is the only team in the Conference that does not have a fence in its
ball park. The second reason is that lacking a fence is a safety hazard (balls are now bouncing to
Lorain Road).

Mr. Carras said the fence would be a great improvement for the Park and the community of North
Olmsted. The Schools are happy to be able to finance it; we ask you (the Commission) that it be
done. Mr. Carras said that he and the Rec Commissioner talked about this matter several years
ago with the then Safety Director. It was thought to be a great plan at that time to move some
diamonds around. The Rec Department has been very cooperative with us as the Schools have
been with them in trying to make that facility the best that can be for all parties involved. Mr.
Carras said that the school personnel did not think there would be such a discussion on it;
however, there turned out to be one last meeting, and the schools hope that this can be resolved at
this meeting.

There were two major concerns at the last meeting: one was that there is a Cub Scout Weekend
there, and there was a representative from the Cub Scouts here at that time who said that should
not be a problem. It was Mr. Milison, Mr. Carras believed, and he is here tonight. The other
th
concern was over the 4 of July Weekend when that area is used for NOSO. Mr. Carras talked
with Mr. Hatfield (who runs the tournament), and he said that would not be a problem and gave
us his blessing, so to speak.

Mr. Carras said that he did not know if there was anything else he could add about the situation.

Mr. DiSalvo said that he spoke with David Saunders, Acting President of NOSO; and, although
he doesn’t run the Cup, NOSO is fine with it as well.

The Chairman opened the floor for questions from the Commission.

Mr. Limpert asked about the definition of “temporary fence.” A temporary fence is a fence that is
built into sleeves that are temporary because the posts may be pulled from them. Mr. Carras said
that he is not an expert in this area, but in his dealings with the two gentlemen who came out to
give estimates, it was made clear that it must be temporary because it must be able to be removed.
The thinking on that would be for Homecoming in August, and whatever else. That’s what was
talked about last month. It has to be in sleeves, in ten foot sections that can be put on a trailer,
moved and fairly easily reinstalled, Mr. Limpert continued.
Page 2
