Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 12, 2005

Mr. Carras said that there was some other thought last time about moving the ball fields around
and taking it down by the football area. That never did come to fruition. There would be a fence
that could be picked up, moved and taken there.

Mr. Kelley said that this is a temporary fix to get a field for the kids to play in their own city and,
hopefully, somewhere down the road we can provide something more permanent. For the present
time, the Chairman thought there was nothing wrong with the proposal.

Mr. Limpert addressed the Chairman by saying that the kids can currently play. That being said, it
is a city park and not a school facility, though we appreciate working together; the Safety
Director wanted this noted.

Mr. Kelley asked if there were any more questions for Mr. Carras.

Mr. Baxter asked if the fence would come down at all. Is Mr. Carras saying the fence would only
be coming down at Homecoming? Mr. Carras replied that he would not want to take the fence up
and down unless it would have to be. Mr. Baxter said that the baseball season ends in early June,
right? Mr. Carras said, “Yes.” Mr. Baxter asked why it would be up for the rest of the summer.
Mr. Carras said it would be up for the Hot Stove kids and for the rest of the community. Mr.
Carras said he hopes there would be a lot of teams to use the fence; not just the High School.
Whatever Hot Stove Division would use it is unknown, but any ball park being played on would
certainly rather have a fence that not have one. Hot Stove ends towards the beginning of August
there, so the thinking is that it would come down right around that time. Mr. Baxter asked if the
Hot Stove teams are made up of North Olmsted residents; Mr. Carras replied affirmatively; they
are all North Olmsted residents.

Mr. Baxter reiterated that he said at the last meeting that he supports the idea to have a quality
field. Are there no other locations for this? He addressed Mr. Kelley, saying that perhaps this is a
temporary thing. Mr. Baxter’s concern is that the Park is not the best place for the field. There is
poor parking. There is not much nearby parking. It’s crowded at the Park. It’s really not an
ideal place, but perhaps is the only place right now. Is there another place in the works? Mr.
Kelley said that Mr. Baxter was on the Commission as long as he was, the Commission was
talking with the Schools long ago and proposed before realignment and building a brand new one
down below; that never came to fruition. The longer we talk, nothing will get done and nothing
will get done in the near future. Mr. Baxter said that Mr. Kelley is looking at the Rec
Department’s property, not the Schools’ property. Mr. Kelley said that the school has a little bit
of property at Pine.

Mr. Carras said that there is a levy coming up in November, and on that levy are proposals for ball
diamonds, some of which are there. Whether there is enough room and that room can be
reconfigured lends hope to put at least two ball diamonds at Pine. That could be a varsity field.
That is a strong possibility that’s in the voters’ hands, not ours.
Page 3
