Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 7, 2006
Page Nine

Indians Tickets

Mr. Barker asked if there were any more tickets for the Indians game; Mr. Dailey said there were no
more to sell. He said that there was going to be North Olmsted night at Jacobs Field; bleacher tickets,
$14.00; $4.00 of each to be donated to the United States Armed Services to buy phone cards to mail
overseas.

The Park

Mr. Baxter asked who was responsible for watering the Park flowers by Lorain Road. Mr. DiSalvo
said that Service is responsible. The Rec Department is responsible for the dirt. Service cuts and
maintains. Mr. Baxter said he observes other cities doing so much more with flowers, and North
Olmsted has trouble keeping them watered, much less planting them.

Mr. DiSalvo asked to interrupt: the city is installing new fountains with accessible spouts because
currently water access is underground. Once the fountains get in, the accessibility will be easier. The
water has always worked, but it had to be shut off because one of the fountains leaked water
everywhere. Currently, the pipes are in good shape and the fountains are going to be installed.

Mr. Barker said that the answer, Mr. Baxter, is that Council has discussed this problem of watering
flowers, turned it over to the Service Department, and now Council has to contact the Service
Department because neither Ted (DiSalvo) nor the Community Life Services Department can go back
to City Hall and say to the Service Department to water the flowers. That’s just the way the system
works.

Mr. Baxter noted the weeds and lack of water around various parts of the Park and that the Walmart
space is a big space; they don’t use it. Ms. Jones said that Walmart has new managers, with new
personnel; perhaps we should call Walmart. Mr. Baxter suggested that the City not rely on Walmart –
to plant its own.

Sandbox

Mr. Baxter said that there is a sandbox in the middle of the Park that badly needs more sand. There’s
a crane in the middle, but it needs more sand for the kids to have more fun. Mr. DiSalvo said that can
be done. Mr. Baxter said that near that sandbox is an old sandbox that someone put some plants in a
few years ago. It’s in betwixt and between and looks bad. Again, if no one cares about the Park
looking nice, it doesn’t matter, but if someone would care, put some good soil in there and put in
some impatiens or other shade flower. This could be a project the Seniors could do. Mr. Sanborn

Page 9
