North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 7, 2006
Page Eight

Park Benches

Ms. Jones asked if the park benches came in; Mr. DiSalvo said they did, and they must be installed.

Tree Signage

Mr. DiSalvo reported that the Eagle Scouts do not want that as a project. They are doing Pavilion
improvements, park benches, and picnic benches. The tree labeling, however, is included in the Rec
Master Plan.

NEW BUSINESS

Front Desk Absence

Ms. Jones said that her daughter-in-law came to the Rec Center Friday about 5:00 p.m., and no one
was in the ticket booth. She knew it was the last day for Flag Football, and she wanted to sign her son
up for the Program. Theresa walked by because Jeff Marshall was out on the ice. Theresa said that
that was nothing; she could not even get in the door the Friday before. She had to wait until her son
came out of the building until she could get back in. So Ms. Jones’ daughter-in-law said that there
was no one around, and Theresa told her to give the registration to her to give to Jeff, and he will put
it in the office so that Chris Wetmore could get it.

Ms. Drenski said that the desk should have been open until 5:45 p.m., and there would have been a
pool staff member as a building supervisor. The Rec Department closes at 6:00, which will change
within the next few weeks with the fall schedule. Jeff’s group is in until 7:15; Ms. Drenski thought the
Rec Department was short on a supervisor one of those days, and they did lock the building down at
6:00, even though their group was inside, so that other random patrons would not come in, because
there was no one at the desk.

Ms. Jones said it just seemed strange; Mr. DiSalvo said he will make sure her grandson is registered
for the Flag Football Program.

Ms. Drenski said that the Rec Department is only open for swimming at that point, but she would find
out why there was no one at the desk. In the evenings, the building is open after 9:00 but there is no
one at the desk if hockey is still here. That is a lot earlier in summer.

Mr. Baxter said there should be some concern about someone just walking in the building. Ms.
Drenski said that many times the supervisor is checking the back doors, and the building was closed
for the night, but the Rec can’t be locked while people are taking showers.
Page 8
