Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
December 5, 2005

down is the “Squirts.” The Pee Wees are strong; the Mights are heavy, which is our foundation. In
the past our Hockey Director was Tim Murphy. Tim resigned last year. Les Wilson, who had three
sons go through the program, and Jack Callender, has two kids that came through the program, are
interested in staying on board for this year. The Mighty Mights, the youngest group, would like to be
on the ice at no cost for a four-week trial period just to see if they like it. These are four and five year
old kids. Ms. Jones said this is a good idea. The Club will come up with some fundraisers just to see
if the kids will like it and then they can join for the next six or eight weeks. The ice has been good.
The Southwest Conference is showing some very good action here at the Rec Center. North Olmsted
has a very solid team – four and one so far. They played Massillon and they beat Bay. The change of
conference has helped. (Conversation among the members about the skills of various hockey players
and teams.) (Conversation from Ms. Kanis about an injured player and member discussion).

Fire Department

Ms. Jones asked Mr. Terbrack when the Fire Department will start building and where it will be built.
The Safety Director said that he was not sure; there were still meetings on the matter. Mr. Terbrack
said the property is near the Metroparks. There is a shoe at the driveway, and whether they can get
the use of the driveway with the Metroparks or whether they have to change their plans has been
worked on with the City Planner. The property will be on Lorain just West of the old Stearns white
home. Mr. Miller said that the problem is that the same group that wants to do that was instrumental
with the Church at Barton, so the funds are low. Mr. Kelley said they also want to save the Kelly
School, right at the corner of Barton and Lorain on the southwest corner. That was a school house
way back when. They went into the house and found the original structure.

Tennis

Ms. Meredith said that it is much better to play in a heated facility – compared to last year when
playing with gloves on, and leggings, and coats.

Ms. Meredith also asked Mr. Kelley about the $5,000 proposed to be allocated a few meetings back
for soil samples. Mr. Kelley said that money was transferred into the Master Plan. Again, Mr. Kelley
said, what would be the sense of going for soil samples if the Rec Department would be working
towards something long-term.

Ms. Powell said that the going towards looking at the noise problems on the ballasts, she had hoped
the $5,000 was still available for that purpose. She thought Tennis had the $5,000 to work with. Mr.
DiSalvo said that the decision was made for that $5,000 to be put into the Master Plan. The Rec is
not just studying Tennis, but the entire Rec Department. This matter goes back to this $5,000 and
another $5,000 from another source, to be targeted for the first $10,000 going into the Master Plan.
That $10,000 wound up going into pool repairs. The money’s been reappropriated at least three
times. Originally, it was decided that the money was not going towards the $5,000 for the tennis
study, it was $5,000 to pay for the first part of Phase 1 of the Master Plan. Overall, everything is
being studied, the entire scope of the Rec Department, not just one tennis court. Maybe instead of
Page 7
