Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
December 4, 2006

OLD BUSINESS

Janco Services Industries

Mr. DiSalvo said that Janco Services Industries is the provider selected as the cleaning service
provider for the Rec Complex beginning January 2, 2007. Effective January 1,2007, Jani-King will
not be providing services for the Rec. The Bid from Janco Services came in at $40,530 as an annual
contract amount. This is approximately $8,000 less than what the Rec was paying Jani-King, so not
only did we get a better company to provide better services, but the Rec will save money as well.

Ms. Jones asked who will do the bathrooms at the Park. Mr. DiSalvo said that would move in-house,
as well as the Skate Park. Janco Services did not bid on the Parks; just the interior of the Rec Center,
so the maintenance crew is more than capable of doing Parks bathrooms, though Jani-King did do
that. The Rec takes care of the dirt in the parks; Service does everything else.

Ms. Powell said she is happy to hear of the new cleaning services, because the only way the Rec can
go is up. In terms of the issue of window cleaning, how did that turn out? The Commission replied
that Janco Services will be responsible for all the windows in the multi-purpose room, and the lobby;
the tennis windows are the Rec’s responsibility.

Concessions

Ms. Jones asked how Concessions was doing. Mr. DiSalvo said it is a very big menu. Mr. Garrity
said that Concessions is open for the Hockey Club, and they are on the ice at 6:15. The Commissioner
said that the Concessionaire will eventually learn her own lesson because the menu is too big. Her
enthusiasm is great. She means well, but she is coming up with ideas that will just not work, e.g., she
is providing Reuben sandwiches – what kid is going to eat that? The concessionaire has a lot of adult
foods, and the concession stand should be made for kids.

Pool, Ice and Tennis Numbers

Mr. Kelley asked about the pool and ice numbers. Mr. DiSalvo said that the Pool Supervisor is using
the pool for multi-purpose uses, e.g., she has two lanes open for open swim and an exercise class on
the other side. She is also getting more rentals in as well. Before the pool was being used as a private
club, more or less, and that can’t be done at the Rec Center. The cost of labor to pool use is better
now as far as revenue generation is concerned.

The rink is very stable, and the big months have been November and December, so the Rec doesn’t
have the actual numbers on that yet. Ms. Drenski said that all instructors are on hand to give people
th
pointers on the ice. The Santa Skate will be the 17 of December, Sunday night.

Tennis is always good.
Page 4
