The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
February 6, 2006
Page Five

local sports organizations and try to keep up with resident usage as well. Ms. Jones asked how many
fields the City has. Mr. DiSalvo answered six baseball fields and two softball fields, counting Little
Clague. All fields are heavily used.

Another issue is that each team has a team scheduler that directly contacts Chris Wetmore. Recently,
two or three other people are calling Chris for the same thing, and Mr. DiSalvo believes that they are
unaware that each team has a specific scheduler. There is not a problem getting the permits requested,
but it’s better to go through the designated team representative, whose job is to schedule either
practices or games. To avoid any confusion, Chris Wetmore is the person solely responsible for doing
the field permits for games and practices with the City’s parks. The Commissioner said that he was
going to have Chris attend the meeting tonight, but Mr. DiSalvo is reporting this matter and hopes that
representatives from Hot Stove, Emerald Necklace and Puritas League to understand this as well: that
it’s out in the open. A meeting is going to be held before the next Rec Commission meeting, and if
Mr. DiSalvo senses any signs of unease, these groups will be invited to the next Recreation
Commission meeting in March, where it can be fully addressed and handled. The Commissioner does
not want to take anything away from Hot Stove because they have put a lot of money into the fields;
however, other teams must have times and dates, too. Softball is fine; the Commissioner is more
concerned with the baseball teams.

Mr. Kelley reported that he got a call from a representative from the Emerald Necklace League, the
girls’ fast-pitch softball league, and fast-pitch sports is a sport that is up and coming right now. As a
matter of fact, that League is sponsoring five teams from North Olmsted, and last year they could not
play a home game in the City because they could not get any time. Mr. Kelley called Mr. Wetmore
and Mr. Barker to make them aware of the situation; the Chairman is aware that in the past, Hot Stove
had first priority on all the fields. At times Hot Stove must give a little to get a little, and Mr. Kelley
stated that he was glad work was being accomplished towards that end.

Mr. Lasko asked what times were categorically not being scheduled. Mr. DiSalvo said that he will
speak with Mr. Wetmore about this matter and stated that the residents would be dealt with fairly.

Ms. Jones asked the Commissioner if there were any calls from the public wanting to use the fields.
Mr. DiSalvo replied that yes, there are calls to Mr. Wetmore when someone wants to reserve a field
for a family get-together; then that family finds out the field cannot be used for three months. This
should not be.

Financial Report

Mr. DiSalvo stated that the next Financial Report should be available for the next Rec Commission
meeting because currently the Rec and the City is putting together its report for 2006. Mr. Terbrack
confirmed.
Minutes of a Meeting of
Page 5
