Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 6, 2006
Page Fourteen

progress is being made from that standpoint. With that in mind, Mr. Barker knew that John (Dailey)
was going to look into this matter tomorrow. It’s a little step at a time built from years in the past
when everyone was afraid to take a step, and Mr. Barker thought that the administration and this
Council are willing to take those steps and pursue some of the problems.

Ms. Jones said that twelve years ago she and a few volunteers painted the whole inside of the ice rink,
and no one stopped them back them. Are you allowing that to happen right now? Mr. Dailey said
that the City would love that to happen, but the fact is that the City must work with the Unions to get
them to give the City approval to allow anything to happen.

Mr. Dailey said that if the City would get a letter from the Hockey Club or from anyone else that says
that they want to paint the bleachers if it cannot be done by the Rec Department’s staff by December
th
15 (put a date on it), then perhaps the City will go forward with it. Mr. Barker said everyone has to
work together to get that accomplished. Mr. Dailey continued that the Union just does not want to be
blindsided, and that’s to be respected. They don’t want to show up on Monday and find out the entire
place has been painted when they were not told it was going to happen. That’s what they are trying to
avoid. So, if the City has a letter saying that some group or organization wants to get involved and
put up a new board or paint or something to benefit the City, and they know their work schedules, and
it’s something that’s not in our budget, it would have to be something to be done Monday through
Friday or whenever possible.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

Upon Motion duly made, seconded and unanimously approved, the meeting adjourned at
8:40 p.m. The next meeting of the North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission is
scheduled for December 4, 2006.

Accepted and Approved:

____________________________________
William D. Kelley Chairman

____________________________________
Judith A. Ptacek-Roche, Secretary

Date: _____________________________

Page 14
