Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 11, 2006
Page Seven

using Springvale’s equipment. It’s much easier to go directly with that person. So if it’s dumpsters,
bathrooms or whatever….Mr. Barker noted that with everyone all under the same umbrella,
Community Life Services, it should be easier to determine what is going on. Ms. Jones said that she
did not remember paying for a dumpster. Mr. DiSalvo said that, before, the Rec Department would
set up an endowment account and then the Rec Department would get invoiced and then pay. The
other problem the Rec has is that it is not the Rec’s event, and if anything gets damaged, the Rec must
pay for it. That happened with the Rec at the NOSO Cup – a couple of restrooms were trashed, and
the Rec had to pay for the repair to what was destroyed. The Rec Department can help and arrange
with the Community Council. Ms. Jones reiterated that in the 12 years she had been with Community
Council, she did not remember their paying for the dumpster. It paid for toilets, but not the dumpster,
so this year there was no dumpster. However, it worked out all right.

Benches

Ms. Jones asked what happened to the benches (that everyone appreciated at Homecoming). Mr.
DiSalvo said they are back at the Rec Department so they will not get stolen. Next year, they will
have a sleeve of some kind to unbolt them and take them off to be used for Homecoming. They will
have their permanent place at the Park, and then for Homecoming they can be removed and placed
temporarily. Ms. Jones said Community Council would like to have plaques placed on them stating
that they were donated by Community Council. Mr. DiSalvo said yes, he agreed.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

Ms. Jones noted that there was a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Cabin during After-Prom on
Sunday morning after the Rotary Run. Everyone should go next year; it was very good. It was $3 for
a pancake breakfast; something new.

Bathrooms

Ms. Jones asked if the bathrooms will be going up. Mr. DiSalvo said that is included with the
community grant that was given last year or so that, tentatively, a new bathroom will be built as well in
the spring. It will be attached to the Senior Center. That was Mr. Barker’s understanding, as well.
Ms. Jones asked if, at that point in time, it would be feasible to get some water to the Pavilion. Mr.
DiSalvo said that would be the time to do it. Mr. Sanborn said, speaking of water, when would the
Rec Department put in the other two drinking fountains that have been there all summer. Mr. DiSalvo
said that is one of Tom Stein’s fall projects. One will be on four; the one on three was replaced
before. One will be between one and two. Ms. Jones said that last year Community Council got a
price of about $6,000 to run the water to the Pavilion. Mr. DiSalvo said that now will be a lot less
expensive.

Page 7
