Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
April 7, 2008

if it passes or fails, until 2011. Mr. DiSalvo said that if the compressors go, that’s over a half million
dollars to replace; there’s nothing in place to get that fixed. His personal feeling is that the Rec owes
it to the people to give them this service with no where to go – and his employees, too. Mr. Dailey
understands this.

Mr. Scarl said he doesn’t think that’s the intent of the City – he hopes it’s not the intent of the City.
As Mr. Lasko said, and Mr. Mahoney, when you’re presenting something, you really hold your cards
close to give them the first offer; you never give them the second offer because a lot of people might
think that’s a better way to go and they will never pass the first offer. Mr. Scarl believes there will be
an alternative plan and the Administration will not leave the Rec Center out to dry and this building
will be torn down. Either way, it will have to run somehow, some way if it does or doesn’t pass.
That’s his opinion.

Mr. Groden hoped that at the meeting on Thursday, to those people that come to the presentation
(and he believed Mr. Mahoney noted this at the last Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting), that
it’s really up to the public to know when these meetings are going to be and it’s up to citizens to stay
involved throughout this process. Mr. Groden was sure there would be questions after the
presentation on Thursday, but he thinks there must be some time for people to digest the things that
they hear. After that meeting on Thursday, if people really care about this issue, then they need to stay
involved.

Mr. Mahoney said he will talk with other Rec Committee members, but he anticipates setting another
date right then and there so that the general public who do attend will know when the next meeting is.
The question may come up where the meeting will be, depending upon how many people attend on
Thursday. We may have to move to a larger venue; but he appreciates Mr. Groden’s thoughts.

Mr. Garrity said that he’s stressed to his members of the Hockey Club to go to the meeting; that we
have faith in the City, and to keep control. He also knows that there will be more than one meeting
regarding this matter. Mr. Mahoney said his goal with the meeting will be to allow the greatest
amount of input from the greatest number of people in attendance. Nothing against hockey, tennis, or
the skate park or anything else, but if we have ten people come up to talk about the ice rink, it will
take away from someone who has another concern not related to hockey or vice versa. He will try to
explain this as articulately as possible on Thursday.

Mr. DiSalvo said did everyone see the meeting postings around the Rec Center – there’s only 30 of
them…Mr. Dailey said that it has been publicized; it’s been mentioned in the Plain Dealer yesterday.
A lot of people have been hearing about it. The Administration has received many phone calls. The
meeting rooms have been wired for sound. We’re going to fit in as many people as we can. Then, we
will schedule another meeting for another day.

Mr. Groden asked if there were any more questions on the meeting. There were none.
Page 13
