Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
December 1, 2008

Stove has a maintenance contract set up with Legacy Landscaping which will be doing a number of
fields: 1, 3, 5 and Clague 1 and 2. That price will be approximately $8,000 to have maintenance fields
kept up to what they need to be. Also for this year, other than the maintenance, Hot Stove plans on
doing a new dugout at Clague 1, pouring concrete. The dugout has a bad flooding problem there.
There is concrete there, but it’s six inches down. They are trying to dig it out. Hot Stove is
anticipating spending $8,000 for the maintenance plus $8,000 for Diamond 1 with the dugout and that
Field. The big thing is that Hot Stove o.k.’d $10,000 for Chestnut Field, because that field has been
neglected for a long time. In talking with Chris (Wetmore), he will be using that field Monday through
Thursday. According to him and how bad it is, he’s welcoming Hot Stove to get that done. We’ve
had fundraisers also. There was a poker night last year - we made $6,000 on it. We plan on doing at
least one or two of those this year and a Night at the Races. We are hoping to raise $15,000. Hot
Stove is trying to do everything it can so that there will be no fees raised for its families – there are
500 families – and not only are they benefitting, but so are the residents. The parks have been
improved over the past five years with no dust last year on the fields. Mr. Scarl did not think too
many people who lived by the Park complained after the diamond dust was put down. We’ve done
much work, and it hasn’t cost the taxpayers any money. Mr. Scarl then handed the letter to Mr.
Mahoney for the Rec Committee; then Council. Hot Stove is looking for a recommendation from the
Committee to have Hot Stove invested in the fields and waive the fees for the prep. Mr. Mahoney
thanked him for the letter and asked him to report back to Mr. Finch and Mr. Tallon, Jr. He knew
there was an issue about some of the school ball diamonds; there was a meeting on it last May, but the
window was apparently missed. When this comes before the Rec Committee, we will revisit the issue
of Spruce and Birch and will bring in a school board member to make it work. Mr. Scarl thanked Mr.
Mahoney.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

After Motion duly made by Mr. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Scarl, and unanimously
approved, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m. The next scheduled meeting of the North
Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission will be January 5, 2009.

Accepted and Approved:

______________________________________________
Terry Groden, Chairperson

______________________________________________
Judith A.
