Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
February 4, 2008

a private contractor with LawnCo, who happened to be the company used for Diamond #5 last year.
There will be a purchase order for them to do the entire renovation of Clague #1 and Clague #2, for
about $13,700, and that will be for both of them, basically taking off all the top dirt there now, make
sure that the slopes are proper, the fields cut and take out some of the outfield with Diamond #1 and
make it lengthen so that the baselines will be the proper way. There will be no fences needed like
Diamond #4, but Hot Stove still wants to be able to accommodate correct field sizes. There will be a
mixture of ball dust as well as the clay, put it down, and top it off with the actual baseball dirt on top.
There are no pitchers’ mounds in Clague #1 or #2, so there will be no need to mound like we did in
#5, but we do have the markers in the ground for the pitching rubber to be placed at the proper
distance. Of course, Hot Stove provides temporary bases and temporary rubbers for different
divisions if they need them. What is wanted is to go ahead and get started with this as soon as
possible. However, what we wanted to do first was to run it by the Recreation Commission, get your
approval, and then go forward.

Mr. Groden asked if there were any questions. Mr. Dailey said that there has been great work done by
Hot Stove in the past, and he would like to get going on the improvements to Field #1 as well with the
High School’s help. His only concern would be how soon this could get approved by Council. Their
th
next meeting is February 5 (we’re too late for that one), but we can fast-track it to the next one on
th
February 19. We’ll have it on the Agenda that night to enter into a contract with Hot Stove. Any
other issue that may arise would be to let our labor know that there will be outside people working on
the Fields just to make sure that the Union is aware of this.

Mr. DiSalvo said he was unaware of the different sizes of the fields at Little Clague. It was noted that
Diamond #1 can only support 60’ bases, so you’re limited to 10 and 11 year-olds. Diamond #2
supports the longer bases, so you can have up to 70’ bases. So Hot Stove will make one longer, so
that they are interchangeable. That also brings the ability to bring over the travel team for the 11 and
12 year-olds to play on those as well, which will then alleviate the bottleneck a little bit up at the Park.

Mr. Dailey said that all permit fees will be waived in exchange for this work. Mr. Scarl asked if, at
th
Council’s meeting on the 19 of February there will be a provision to waive the fees. Mr. Dailey said
it will be legislation much as it was last year. Mr. Baxter asked what the fees would be if they weren’t
waived. Mr. Dailey said it would be about $9,000, or about the same amount that is being spent on
the fields.

Mr. Groden asked for a Motion to be put forward for the Parks and Recreation Commission
recommend the improvements to Diamonds #1 and #2 at Little Clague. Mr. Dailey made a Motion to
accept the donation from North Olmsted Hot Stove to repair and rebuild Little Clague Park’s Fields
#1 and #2 in return for waiving any field prep and permit fees for 2008. Mr. Scarl seconded the
Motion. All were in favor, and the Motion passed unanimously.

Mr. Groden thanked the members of Hot Stove for their attendance at the meeting.
Page 2
