Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 14, 2008

the attached sheet of paper, you will see four ideas (not in any particular order) that Ted DiSalvo,
John Dailey and Kim Wenger were kicking around.

We wanted something that would benefit North Olmsted Park at the Pavilion Park Shelter. A metal
shelter is not something we want to do, Mr. Dailey said. Mr. DiSalvo said that’s just the material,
instead of wood and metal, because metal lasts longer. That’s all that is.

The bleachers, as Commissioner DiSalvo discussed earlier, are very important to us. There have been
a number of complaints because every time the present bleachers get moved, they get weaker. Mr.
DiSalvo said that NOSO will purchase a set for Field #2, so Field #2 will be taken care of. This is a
donation.

The wrought iron fencing for North Olmsted Park is nice, but not the luxury at this point in time;
which leads me to the Play equipment at Barton/Bradley Park. We want uniformity across the
community, so as we did something at North Olmsted Park, we want it for Barton/Bradley and
eventually do something similar at Little Clague. We think it’s a better way to go.

What Mr. Dailey wanted from the Rec Commission tonight is the approval to apply for playground
equipment for Barton/Bradley Park as part of the grant underwriting application which Council,
tomorrow night, may have the opportunity to give approval as well so we can have the application
submitted by February 1, 2008. Any discussion on those projects or anything else we need?

Mr. Scarl had a question on the grant. Do we specifically have to name a project to apply for the
grant. Mr. Dailey said that we did. We considered doing a few other things as well, one being a pool
filter, but this entire season would have been lost. A truck is nice, but we can’t see any other trucks
that were awarded through the grant process; this is what leads us back to the playground equipment
or the pavilion, which they’ve done before as well. Mr. Scarl said that he saw two prices – is that two
sets together for $53,000, or is it one or the other. Mr. DiSalvo said it was one or the other. North
Olmsted has equipment two to five and then five to twelve. This is together, which makes it a nice
unit. Two to five year old equipment is on one side, bridging to the older group. Mr. Scarl said 12-
year-olds for playground equipment? Mr. DiSalvo replied that they are rated like that, and especially
at Barton/Bradley, there are all kinds of ages there. Mr. Dailey said that price did not include a
rubberized surface like the Park. So, you’re probably looking at more like $55,000 for this
playground equipment. Speaking of playground equipment, did the contractor come back and fix the
equipment that was broke after about three weeks, asked Mr. Scarl. Mr. Dailey said the only thing
that was broken on that was the digger. It wasn’t any fault of the design; just where it was laid out in
the Park. That was the only problem we had in the Park, but from what we have been told and what
we have experienced, the surface is very positive. Mr. Scarl asked if there was a warranty with the
surface. Mr. Dailey said there is; he did not recall what it was on this contract. It’s easily fixed, as
well. Mr. DiSalvo believes the warranty covers everything except fire damage.
Page 8
