Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
March 3, 2008

will recommend approval for the entire Council. Mr. Dailey said they were all in unanimous
agreement, anyway.

Pool Filter

The pool filter has been ordered at a cost of $36,500. It should be installed and ready for operation by
the time the outdoor pool opens. Three companies bid packages: Miller Plumbing; High Tech Pools;
and Whitmer, who got the bid. The other two figured they would be going to Whitmer for the part
anyway, so that’s the way it worked out, as expected. The bid specs were geared out to be an
equivalent, so it didn’t have to be the visual vacuum filter system. It could be something that’s the
same, just a different name brand, and no one bid on it.

Sun Herald/West Life Articles

Finally, Mr. Dailey commented on the articles in the Sun Herald and West Life (copies attached)
regarding the discussions ongoing with the Recreation Center. The article in the West Life gets into a
little more detail, with people talking specifically about a partnership with the YMCA, Fairview
General Hospital (Cleveland Clinic). The one in the Sun Herald talked a little bit more about what’s
going to be included and what’s going to be excluded. Hopefully, something will be coming out of the
Administration and before Council by the end of March by the time the budget process is completed.
Some members will be gone for spring break; the Administration expects to get with them either the
last day of March or the week prior to spring break. If not, it will have to be the first week in April,
but we will push for March to get before Council. Mr. Dailey said that there will be a 78,000 square
foot facility, if he remembered correctly; tennis was 20,000 square feet, and the rest was the Rec
Center itself. The plans going forward will not include ice. He just wants to make sure people are
apprised of this situation, and everything is up and on the table.

Mr. Garrity asked if Mr. Dailey would be meeting with any specific groups. There was a one-meeting
only with prospective heads of various sports groups, including the schools. It was only one time.
Mr. Dailey said that, from the Administration’s standpoint, he would say that no, it’s not going to
happen again. The Administration feels that it’s past that; now it will get the matter into Council’s
hands so that they can take a look at it and see if they want to move forward with it as well. It will be
up to Council to decide if they want to put this on the ballot or not. Any type of concerns can be
heard while it goes through the Council process. Mr. Garrity asked if there would be a fair
notification of when that’s going to happen. Mr. Dailey said it would be typically when the Council
Committee meetings happen, which are usually opposite Tuesdays of the Council meetings. Mr.
Mahoney said to get on the internet, because the internet will show when the council meetings are and
when the committee meetings are. Unfortunately, because the Agenda for City Council change almost
on a daily basis, the Agenda for City Council is not put on the web site because it changes too
frequently on such short notice. It’s just not possible to keep up to date. His advice to Mr. Garrity
was to be prepared to come to the meetings in March and April; call the Clerk of Council, Barb
Seman, and find out when the Rec Committee meets. Certainly in March and April and, if it goes into
May, that will be the time to pay attention. Mailings are cost prohibitive. City ordinances, to Mr.
Mahoney’s knowledge, do not require it. Again, we live in a free government society. It’s
Page 7
