Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 8, 2008

dwindled. Ms. Drenski said there will be a cooking class and other small classes that will bring in
more money, including a Christmas camp that starts the day that school is out. Rink is doing a
fantastic job, mainly with lessons after Winterhurst shut down. They reciprocated from us last year;
this year it’s our turn so that worked out pretty well. Karrie (Tipton) is having a really good year in
Gymnastics as well – she’s almost $10,000 ahead of the prior year. With the Olympics, there’s usually
a big interest with skating enrollment; the same with Gymnastics. Mr. DiSalvo asked if there were any
more questions on the income.

There being none, the Commissioner moved on the expenses on the second page (copy attached),
stating that a lot of the negative numbers are resultant from summer employment from the pool;
however, if you go down the sheet, with Gymnastics, that’s her commission, so the more money
Karrie is bringing in, the commissions go out, and we did not actually expect her to make as much
income as she is currently this year. Even though that number looks like she’s $12,000 behind, it’s a
wash because of the amount of income she’s bringing in. In Team Sports, and this is noted, we
projected to have about $5,000 in corn hole tournaments; we had four schedule at Springvale. We are
no longer going to bother with it. That’s a bar and grill type league tournament; the Commissioner
asked other cities and found that the bars and grills have the corner on it. That’s why we tried it at
Springvale; many people drink beer there, most of the people are involved with their local hangouts.
Mr. DiSalvo mentions that because for Chris (Wetmore) being a little less than $1,000 down, he’s
kicked the numbers up by working on more registrations and participation in his existing programs
from here until year-end.

That’s it for July. The Commissioner was able to run off somewhat of a monthly revenue report (copy
attached). Please note that Enrichment is down $29; everyone else is either even or ahead of
projections, excepting Team Sports, which is $1,900 down. However, Mr. DiSalvo knows that
enrollment for football has been good, and he feels that Chris will meet his budgeted figures as well.

Income-wise, the Rec is doing very well. Both edges will come in dead-even with expenses. There
will be a shift in expenses. The pool expenses are going to go down. Rink will pick up because the
kids are back. The Rec Department is looking to come out OK. We have four more months. It will
be close, but the Commissioner felt confident that the Rec Department as a whole will make it.

Special Olympics of Ohio

Ms. Drenski said that the Special Olympics of Ohio always held its program at Winterhurst. Now that
Winterhurst has been taken over, they are having difficulty in working with that group. The Special
thth
Olympics will be coming to the Rec either December 7 or 14; we’re trying to see what the best date
would be because we will be cancelling some of the hockey for that day. It will be from 8:00 to 5:00.
Ms. Drenski did not know enough about the range of athletes, but the big deal is that it will be a big
event for him here at the Rec. She will have more information for the Rec Commission probably next
month. They will be paying an hourly rate a little bit off the regular amount. Mr. DiSalvo said the Rec
gave them a ten percent discount, but it’s still way less than what was going to be charged by
Winterhurst. Mr. DiSalvo wanted to say it would be $130 an hour; less than what Winterhurst
charged.
Page 2
