Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 8, 2008

National Skating Day for Figure Skaters

Also, Ms. Drenski continued, the local Cleveland organization of rinks is working to hold the National
Competitions coming to Cleveland in January 2009. The organization is working with all the rinks to
th
hold the National Skating Day on the same day, if possible, on January 24, from 10:00 to 12:00,
where you have the ice for free. We did charge skate rental last year so we had some income coming
in. However, this year, they will work with all the athletes that are here for the competition and have
them out in the rink. It will be figure skaters. Each rink will get tickets to the finals. The Rec doesn’t
have to do anything; it will be publicized.

Summer Camp

Mr. DiSalvo said that summer camp had a net profit of $32,441 which was a $3,733 increase over the
prior year. Summer camp is a great program and just continues to grow. It is a good income
generator.

Pool Supervisor

Cindi Bartko, the Pool Supervisor, has resigned her position as Aquatic Supervisor and worked her
last day on Saturday, August 9, 2008. The status of her position will remain open until further notice.
Until the, Chris Wetmore has assumed the Aquatics Supervisor duties while Carol Roman has
accepted additional pool program and operational duties as a head guard. The pool is still the same;
just two people working it out.

Mr. Scarl had a question on the Aquatics Supervisor’s resignation, and asked if she went somewhere
else. Mr. DiSalvo said that, yes, she went to Cleveland State but does not work for Cleveland State
but, rather, a contractor called Centers LLC. Mr. Scarl asked where her salary is going. Mr. Dailey
said it will go no where; it will be eliminated from the budget, as it will be a position that will not be
filled. Mr. Scarl said that for the rest of the year she was budgeted to have money and asked if the
new people here (Chris and Carol) getting the money that would have gone for that job? Mr. DiSalvo
said that as a Program Supervisor Chris assumed the duties and Carol received an increase for
expanded duties. Mr. Scarl asked why Chris did not get an increase; you gave him more duties but no
extra money with it – how fair is that? Mr. Dailey said it was fair; when you’re non-bargaining it’s the
way it goes. Mr. DiSalvo said that Chris, in his cost center, supervises three people at the most; now,
in his cost center he will be picking up staff for whom he’s a direct supervisor. Mr. Scarl said that
next year, when the pool is busy there will be no pool supervisor. Chris is doing all the admin work,
Mr. DiSalvo said; Carol will be operations and the one physically there.

This concluded the report of the Commissioner of Recreation. He said he left earlier today and did not
have a chance to ask John (Dailey), so that’s why he did not indicate on the Agenda what the
Community Life Services Director was going to report.
Page 3
