Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
April 6, 2009

summer season begins. Once again, with Gymnastics, Karrie (Tipton) is at 38.80%, but that’s a good
thing – commissions going out to Karrie. Although it doesn’t wash, she’s generating enough income
where it washes itself. Karrie’s always high in expenses because there are commissions paid out to run
her gymnastics program.

Year-to-date, we’re about $5,408 behind our target, and Maintenance is behind about $11,000, due to
a lot of repairs. The Commissioner said that he would get into that a little bit later in the meeting – it’s
his third point on the Agenda.

Mr. DiSalvo asked if there were any questions on the Expenses. Ms. Powell had a comment about the
Tennis area. She said it could be a reflection of our economic conditions because some tennis players
that she talked to said that they have cut back a little bit and they have not been able to take as many
lessons for themselves or their children as they would like. She was also wondering if the new tennis
complex in Westlake had opened yet...the indoor tennis courts. Ms. Powell said there is another
private organization that is opening up the new tennis facility in Westlake very close to Five Seasons.
Their rates will be higher, and she believes people will still come to North Olmsted for that reason.
She asked if the tennis pros said anything about their lessons. Mr. DiSalvo said that Pat (Cunningham)
has mentioned lessons are down as well as tournaments. Ms. Powell said that there will be the USTA
Tournament in April or May, so that could make a big difference.

Mr. DiSalvo said that he has been saying for the last three years that the Ice Rink and Tennis are
almost topped out, short of raising rates. Ms. Drenski said that she raised the hourly rates for new
rentals, not the contract rentals, at the beginning of the year. Come fall, all the rates will be up $10 as
well, so that will make a difference at the end of the year.

Mr. DiSalvo said this concluded his Finance Report and asked for any other additional questions.

All Scouts Event Report

All Scouts will use North Olmsted Park the first or second week in June. This year, we had a request
from Tim Murphy if we could keep the fence on Diamond #1 up for the High School Boys Summer
League. Mr. DiSalvo said that Mr. Murphy should go through channels because of All Scouts; the
Commissioner would check with John (Dailey) and the Mayor. At first, the Rec offered All Scouts if
they wanted the entire north end of North Olmsted Park it was theirs – they didn’t have to worry
about fences. Through interpretation, somewhere it sounded like the Rec was kicking them out of the
south end of the Park and making them go on the north end of the Park, which wasn’t true. There
was never just one contact, and e-mails were flying back and forth. Before the Commissioner knew it,
rumor was that the Rec was keeping all the fences up, and we were going to make them go on the
south end of the Park; take it or leave it. No one spoke to the Commissioner directly. Mr. DiSalvo
knew how to handle this matter directly. It was going through Chris (Wetmore); John (Dailey) and
the Mayor were getting e-mails as well as Mark Mahoney. We were supposed to meet with three
Page 3
