Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
April 6, 2009

because it is much cheaper to mail. Ms. Drenski said that this format is accepted by the public very
well.

Visitor’s Comments

Ms. Powell asked to address the Commission. She said that maintenance has always been an ongoing
problem and concern. When we had some of our community meetings, one of the concerns the
residents identified was: can we maintain, improve and keep up what we have in place without tearing
down or totally replacing, and she thought the community thinks the maintenance has always been a
problem at the Rec. She continued that Ted DiSalvo, under his recent leadership, has given her good
feedback that there must be some kind of schedule in place, and that things are now being done on a
regular, routine basis and people know what to expect and what to look for. She also thought that,
while we may go back and say how can we can get the contract and can we recover, at some point we
have to take a look at how we make our maintenance program accountable, supervised and monitored,
because you really want to ensure that we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past. She went back to
how many years we had the cleaning service in at such a high rate – Jani King. For years everyone
coming in to the facility could see that it wasn’t being maintained. It wasn’t being kept clean and
attractive. It’s still a great facility. She thinks the Rec is now making a big turnaround, but she thinks
preventative measures are in order, so that five years from now we’re not talking about it happening
again.

Also, was there an article in the paper recently if the State of Ohio gets some stimulus funds…she
thought she saw an article in the paper where the Mayor indicated that some of those monies might go
to the recreation center or a recreation center. Mr. DiSalvo didn’t hear anything other than a wish list.
Mr. Groden said that the Mayor, like most every other Mayor in the State of Ohio, submitted a list for
projects that he would like to be able to get stimulus funds. Are we going to tear down and build or
keep what we have and improve, Ms. Powell wanted to know. Mr. DiSalvo said that the Mayor wants
a brand new facility but, again, that’s just a wish list at this point. Ms. Powell said that Mr. DiSalvo is
making a big difference in how people are perceiving maintenance at the facility.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

After Motion duly made and, seconded, and unanimously approved, the meeting adjourned
at 8:05 p.m. The next scheduled meeting of the North Olmsted Parks and Recreation
Commission is scheduled for May 4, 2009.

Accepted and Approved:
_____________________________________________
Terry Groden, Chairperson
______________________________________________
Judith A.
