Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
April 6, 2009

covered by the Reliance agreement, but it will still be much less. As an example, right before
Christmas, the Rink’s warming area was freezing. The Rec called in Reliance, the serviceman spent
about two hours, and the place was warm again. In case you are all wondering, the money will be
transferred around in the budget.

Ms. Nader had a question on replacement: is there a point where the Rec Department would have to
look at replacement? Mr. DiSalvo said no, not yet. We have very good equipment, and we’re lucky
it’s not too late. On the underground equipment, there’s nothing you can do with it, but the APR Unit
probably hasn’t been running right for the past five years, because every time you walked by it, there
was a red light on it; obviously that meant something. Now it’s all green now; it’s humming; it’s not
making any noise. How could you not notice that? Mr. Scarl said that when there would be a meeting
in the pool room, the chlorine smell would be very strong. Ms. Drenski said he was breathing the old
chlorine. Everything is running very well; however, it is costing some money, but positive money
now.

Automatic Scrubber Equipment Quotes

The last quote is equipment needed for additional in-house cleaning duties because we only outsource
three areas: the main lobby, concession, and the men’s and women’s locker rooms, that cleaning
contract used to go for about $50,000; now it’s down to $10,000. We have accepted a lot of in-house
cleaning duties. We need to buy a floor scrubber. Coverall came in at $7,281; Alco, $8,309; Zep,
$10,435. The model we have now is over 15 years old and it’s done its duties well, but it needs
replacement. Right now, everything is mopped by hand; it gets clean, but not as clean as an automatic
scrubber. With the additional duties the crew has picked up, this will help.

Leaf Vacuum

The next one is basically a leaf vac, and we’ve looked a couple Sears models, but they just do not have
enough horsepower. This will be quoted out. It would clean up the debris, throw it on the truck. The
Service Department doesn’t have anything like it. In the beginning, the Rec would look to rent one to
see how it works. These are between $4,000 and $5,000, but it would definitely be worth it.
Actually, Springvale could use it. The vac would take the leaves away from the fence, go over them
with the mower a few times and chop them up. The ratio on size is ten to one on this. This is non-
essential, but the other three items the Commissioner said are essential. The Rec has the money for
this; it would just be a matter of transferring between accounts.

Spring/Summer Newsletter

Ms. Drenski said that the Rec is cutting down from three to two newsletters per year. The next one
will be in the fall/winter. It will be posted in a half-page format rather than an 8-1/2x11” format
Page 8
