Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 5, 2009

Olmsted is in and, long term, to go to the residents for a recreation levy, it would not be in our best
interests for a while. Mr. Dailey did say, however, that with obesity becoming a problem here in this
country with youth all the way up to adults, that some cities were considering going to a five cent tax
on every soda pop sold within the City. I don’t know what that would generate for the City of North
Olmsted, but with all the restaurants and other establishments, that might be something pretty
substantial that could go just for recreation. It would be almost like a tax that would fight obesity.
Mr. Groden asked if it was New York City or the State of New York that was thinking about doing
that? Mr. Dailey just read the blurb, didn’t have time to read the article, so he really didn’t know for

sure.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

After Motion duly made by Mr. Lasko, seconded by Mr. Dailey, and unanimously approved,
the meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m. The next scheduled meeting of the North Olmsted Parks
and Recreation Commission is February 2, 2009.

Accepted and Approved:

______________________________________________
Terry Groden, Chairperson

______________________________________________
Judith A.
