Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 1, 2009

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

REPORT OF THE COMMUNITY LIFE SERVICES DIRECTOR

Mr. Groden asked Mr. Dailey if he had anything to report. Mr. Dailey said that everything he wanted
to talk about has been covered.

Mr. Dailey then said that the only other thing he has to report is about the Fourth of July Parade has
been changed this year because the NOSO Cup falls on the same weekend as the Fourth of July Parade
(a once every nine-year event), the Administration is doing everything this year on the City Hall
campus. We will be changing the parade route. It will be the same distance; just around the block –
up Dover Center to Butternut; Butternut to Lorain; Lorain back into City Hall by the Police Station
and Old Town Hall. We’ll have all the festivities in front of Old Town Hall. City Hall will be opened
for bathroom accessibility and is ADA compliant.

OLD BUSINESS

Mr. Baxter asked if anything had been done about improving the safety on the road that runs through
the park. He wondered if anything had been done about that: posting new signs or putting speed
bumps. His view was that there are a lot of small children running through there constantly, and
people aren’t paying a lot of attention. Speed bumps, in Mr. Baxter’s mind, would be the best
solution. Mr. Groden agreed with Mr. Baxter. Mr. Groden continued, saying that he just came from
there this evening – his daughter had a softball game on that field next to that drive – and, especially in
the summer, there are children there all the time. He sees traffic on that road going too fast. Mr.
Dailey said he’d talk with Engineering. Mr. DiSalvo said that he thought he remembered something
about plowing with speed bumps was a problem. Mr. Scarl said there’s asphalt that could be used for
a couple of speed bumps. Mr. Baxter said it would wake everyone up. Mr. Dailey said he would
review it with the Engineering Department tomorrow.

NEW BUSINESS

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

After Motion made by Mr. Dailey, seconded by Mr. Scarl, and unanimously approved, the
meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. The next scheduled meeting of the North Olmsted Parks and
Recreation Commission is scheduled for August 3, 2009.

Accepted and Approved:
_____________________________________________
Terry Groden, Chairperson
______________________________________________
Judith A. Ptacek-Roche, Secretary

Date: _____________________________
Page 14
