Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Recreation Commission
March 2, 2009

Scarl, when May and June come along, the money is collected on the front end. What matters, as we
all know, is the final tally in December.

All the other Departments are indicated on the second spreadsheet for February 2009. Gymnastics is
up six percent from the prior year. The Pool is down 12%; Ice Rink is down 15%, and Tennis is down
12%. Sports Programming is down 18% - and the reason Chris (Wetmore) is down 18% is that he’s
finishing basketball. Next is his summer programming with baseball, etc.

The Commissioner said he was out of the office last week and did not have a chance to talk to his staff
about income. He could not give an answer right now while Pool and Rink are down. He is really
surprised that Rink is down 15% from the prior year. He knows that there were no tournaments
missed; it has to be more daily admissions and D.J. Friday Nite Skates’ numbers might be down but,
again, he could not give a full and accurate explanation as to why the numbers are down. He knows
that Pool lessons have been steady and, again, he thinks the admissions might be down a little from the
prior year.

For Total Program Revenue: again, the reason why it’s up four percent from the prior year is because
Jenny collected most of her summer camp monies in this month as opposed to a May and June month.

The above may all be a reflection of the economy as well.

Mr. Dailey said that these are numbers the City and Rec will be monitoring throughout the year,
because he believes it’s a snapshot of what the economy is doing and what parents will decide to do.
They may decide not to take vacations and put more money for their kids into the Rec Center
programs. It will be a good indicator for us across the City. Mr. Dailey said that he had
conversations with Betsy, and they know that Friday skate numbers are down. There have been a
couple bad Fridays weather wise, preventing skaters from coming.

Mr. DiSalvo said that the last page of his report indicates that, regarding expenses, the Rec is holding
its own. The target for the end of February is 16%. With the exception of the Maintenance
Department (where there were a lot of repairs done with the heating system in both the pool and rink
areas), everything is doing well. We are also restocking on a lot of supplies. Even though it’s early,
the Rec will be watching expenses. The Commissioner asked if there were any questions.

Ms. Nader asked about the variation in Gymnastics. Mr. DiSalvo said that when Karrie (Tipton) is
over on expenses, that’s actually good because more commissions went out than were budgeted.

Culls

Mr. Dailey asked that the Commissioner talk a little bit about Culls. Mr. DiSalvo said that Culls has
been maintaining the Rec’s HVAC systems probably since the Rec first opened. They provided decent
service throughout, but within the last few years we’ve noticed that they are making two or three calls
on the same repair. Things just weren’t getting done. Their staff went from about 18 to
Page 2
