Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Recreation Commission
March 2, 2009

by the wood chip pile. Mr. Dailey said to have the individual give him a call at City Hall. Mr.
Mahoney said he would do so.

Mr. Dailey asked Mr. Mahoney how the parking lot down by Field 5 has held up. Mr. Mahoney and
Mr. Scarl both said it was bad; black tar mixed in with stone, and it’s terrible because it’s not level.
Mr. Scarl said it needs to be rolled and graded very badly. Mr. Dailey said it was ground up black top
mixed in with stone. Mr. Scarl said now it’s all cracked, coming up with the concrete. Mr. Dailey
said he would talk with City Hall tomorrow.

OLD BUSINESS

None

NEW BUSINESS

Fitness Center

Mr. Baxter asked a question: when the Rec Center was going to be redone, one of the things that a
lot of people wanted was a fitness center. He hadn’t heard it said, but is it really a given that there are
no funds and no place for a center? He further stated that it doesn’t have to be as nice as what was
hoped to be. If you go down to the Y on Columbia Road, you’ll see that the fitness equipment is in a
relatively small place. This is about ten bikes, ten treadmills, and ten elliptical machines. They don’t
take up a lot of room, though they’re costly. Thirty pieces of equipment would be at least $60,000. Is
this just out of the question? Mr. Dailey said it’s not out of the question; just that now is not the time
to be thinking of it until we know the future of the Rec Center. Perhaps two years down the road we
may be able to plan ahead and look towards and, rather than buying, we could lease equipment, much
like the golf carts at Springvale so there is constantly rotating new stock.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

After Motion duly made and, seconded, and unanimously approved after noting that
Mr. Groden and Ms. Drenski were absent due to prior commitments, the meeting adjourned
at 7:34 p.m. The next scheduled meeting of the North Olmsted Parks and Recreation
Commission is scheduled for April 6, 2009.

Accepted and Approved:

_____________________________________________
Mark Mahoney, Councilman, Acting Chairperson

______________________________________________
Judith A.
