Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 9, 2009

to bring this Board up to speed. In the family restroom walk: as you may recall, when we installed
the ADA restroom back in 2006, there was a discrepancy between the contractor and the supervising
agency. The walk needs redoing; it is not ADA compliant at the present time because of the height
involved. There needs to be a very long walk. What they are considering doing is almost a serpentine
route to take the space you need to get up to grade; it will add a little contour to our Park, which Mr.
Dailey likes.

The existing drinking fountains show that they are not accessible to get to for most of us. There will
be concrete pads put around and then walks put up to them. Looking to remove one of them by the
Veterans’ Memorial area – that water fountain is not used enough to justify keeping a fountain there;
we are looking at a $3-$5,000 cost to have a walk installed to make it ADA compliant; so we decided
to eliminate that water fountain altogether. It will save us money.

The walking path will be corrected as well, to make it more user-friendly.

The path to the tennis courts should be basketball courts.

Parking spots are a problem; while we may have some ADA accessible spots, there are not long
enough.

There will be some new changes made after the first of the year to make our parks; we look forward
to them all to help make our parks more user-friendly. There have been complaints in the past from
Hot Stove. There will be a welcome change and, again, at no cost to the City of North Olmsted.
This will go through Service and Engineering, so it won’t be on the Rec Center for this cost. As soon
as the weather breaks, the outside work will be started. It’s a $100,000 grant. Historically, the
CDBG Grant has been good to the City of North Olmsted.

Speed Bumps

Mr. Baxter asked Mr. Dailey about the speed bumps installed in the lower end of the Park. Obviously,
at this point it’s probably moot because there is no sports activity going on, but spring will come
again, and Mr. Baxter wondered if anyone would be thinking about that. Mr. Dailey said that the
current City Service Director is against it; he believes that the speed bumps damage the roadways
when it snows and gets plowed; makes the plowing difficult. Mr. Baxter brought a speed bump listing
in the marketplace for consideration for Mr. DiSalvo or Mr. Dailey to consider. There are also
pictures and different plastic bag dispensers which people can use for pet waste. He did not know
there was such a publication, but he is happy to give it to Ms. Drenski for Mr. DiSalvo. Everyone on
the Commission thought it a good idea.
Page 6
