Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
October 5, 2009

Vandalism

Because of the extent of the vandalism, the Rec Department will get the appropriate paint, match it up,
and paint over the vandalism. It must be cleaned and then painted. It’s a lot easier to just paint over it
manpower and cost-wise. It’s the easiest way to keep up with it.

Mr. Groden asked if there was any more vandalism elsewhere. Mr. DiSalvo said that the Community
Council Pavilion got damaged by vandals. That’s been the last major problem. Fortunately, that came
off pretty easily. It’s the ink pens and paint pens that are shaken that are almost impossible to get off,
especially on wood.

Vandalism is dying out now because the kids are back in school.

NEW BUSINESS

Seniors’ Admission to North Olmsted
Sporting Events at the High School

Mr. Dailey said that it was being talked about on the school cable channel that seniors were being
admitted to North Olmsted sporting events at the high school and the stadium for free as long as they
show their cards. He knew that that was something that had been done at one time; however, he did
not know if Mr. DiSalvo had heard any complaints about that. Mr. DiSalvo replied that he got
together with Tim Karris in 2007 because we have absolutely no reason to let people in for free;
people are coming in with fake passes to get in free. Seniors are charged $3.00. They do not get in
free. The only way people get in free is whatever the school gives for coaches – a school I.D. – so it
can be controlled. As of now, Seniors and Students are charged the same amount of $3.00. Adults
are $6.00.

Mr. Dailey reported that there was some sort of senior pass, and he did not know what the age criteria
is, where they can get into the high school games for free on the school property. Ms. Drenski said
they brought that pass here, but it is not free at the Rec for Seniors.

Pool Grates

Mr. DiSalvo said that, because of a new law, four grates must be installed in the Pool (two in the
indoor pool and two in the outdoor pool). The grates are $6,000 each. The Rec’s system does not
even run on suction; it’s gravity. This rule applies for kiddie pools and whirlpools that have that hard
suction. Technically, our pool does not even have this, but legally, we must get these grates installed.
If we don’t get it under Cap, I can probably get it under Equipment Repair & Maintenance. That’s
really the only major thing that must be done next year. Mr. Groden said this was $6,000 per grate.
Mr. DiSalvo said it was. They must be officially approved grates. The edging is raised; Mr. Groden
said they might cause injuries; Mr. DiSalvo said they might cause more injuries than deaths. However,
that’s the law.
Page 6
