NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

August 4, 2003

Meeting called to order: 7:08 p.m.

In Attendance: Claire Hayes, Chairman
Norm Baxter, Member
Richard Jesse, Safety Director
Michael R. Gareau, Jr., Councilman
Randi Jones, Member

Anna Kanis, Member
Ted DiSalvo, Recreation Commissioner

Absent: William D. Kelley, Member

Visitors: Dave Perkins

The Meeting was called to order and roll-call taken. Motion to approve the minutes from July, as
read, was made by Mr. Jesse, with a second by Mr. Baxter. Roll was called; all were in favor with
changes made to page three (maneuverability course teacher). There has been approval by the
Police Chief, but Law Department review is required. The second change will be made to page
five, noting Westlake as the City accepting four people (one adult and up to three children or
teenagers between seven and eighteen or two adults and two children.).

SUB COMMITEE REPORT

Definition of Family

Rocky River’s “Definition of Family” was approved by the Sub Committee as quoted in the July
minutes.

REPORT BY RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Group Exercise Class

Mr. DiSalvo reported that there has been a new change in format in the group exercise classes
beginning September 1, 2003. They will be held at the Community Cabin/Senior Center. Karrie
Tipton (Gymnastics) and the Commissioner met with all concerned. There is a growing need to
expand the gymnastics program. To be able to offer an expanded program, time did not permit
scheduling classes for the head instructor at the same time Karrie Tipton was expanding hers.
Income for the aerobics program at the Rec Center is very inconsisent and does not cover the pay
for the instructor. The gymnastics program is more promising, and classes are already filled.
There is greater need to provide more gymnastics programming than group exercise. The
locations are changing. There is a reduction in price as well. It was agreed that the morning
