Recreation Commission Meeting
August 3, 2003
Page Six

Basketball Courts

Mr. DiSalvo stated that Mr. Jesse referred to the basketball courts. No bids have been received
except for one bid hand delivered to West Asphalt Paving today, which company was redoing
Berea High School, noted upon the Commissioner’s drive to work. The company is small and
needs the business.

Pool Bleachers

Mr. DiSalvo received one bid for the pool bleachers, which will be reviewed by the Board of
th
Control tomorrow, August 5. Mr. Jesse said that the bid is in above $15,000, should be
wrapped up tomorrow, and then it goes to Council. The bid is below budget, so it should pass.
Ms. Jones asked after all is approved, how long it would take before the bleachers were installed.
Mr. Jesse replied that the Rec Center probably would not have the bleachers before October.
Mr. Baxter asked why there weren’t more bids on the bleachers. Mr. Jesse said that the specs are
very detailed and must meet certain legal standards to help prevent collapse (overlapping
conversation among the members about the fasteners on the bleachers).

Recreation Brochure

st
Mr. DiSalvo reported that the brochures went out on the 1 of August. The next one coming out,
st
in April, will be the annual one. Ms. Jones commented that it made sense to mail it on the 1.
Mr. Jesse said that, ideally, April would be the next one with an interim of priors off the Internet.

I.D. Pictures

Ms. Jones asked if anyone who worked in the ticket booth was able to take I.D. pictures, because
someone told her that no one was in the booth who could take her picture. Mr. DiSalvo said that
this was embarrassing and will be handled. Mr. Jesse said that there have been system problems
and training issues. This will be part of the new computerization and, until that happens, the Rec
will be in a state of flux.

Miscellaneous

Outside bathrooms in the cabin are to stay open and clean.

Ms. Hayes noted that the lifeguards must take their breaks and not do any other kind of work
such as clean the bathrooms.

The Chairman asked if there were any other questions from the Members.
Page 6
